Gliding "paused"

Probably an electric powered, optionally crewed Chinook but still a Chinook!

More likely to be hydrogen or bioethanol.

Notwithstanding the general interest, Chinooks, Voyagers & everything bar Vikings - ain’t ā€œGliding Paused.ā€

They glide if you pause the engines??

That’s not gliding. It’s falling with style

Arent they tecnically civvy as part of the third party training provider, like the tutor, phenom, king air, prefect. None listed

I first thought that is why they are not listed but they are not G-Reg aircraft but military reg

God knows!

Stick an FOI in

Looks like the case has been made to push the OOS date for the Viking to 2040 at least.

I shall pop down and enquire.

Are you new here…
:rofl::joy::rofl::joy::rofl::joy:

I’m starting a sweepstake on when Syerston will cancel their ā€˜Longest day’ gliding event due to the hot weather on Saturday.

What do people think, midnight before?
When cadets and staff are travelling?
When cadets and staff arrive?
Let cadets and staff arrive, debate the hot weather for 3 hours then cancel and send everyone home?

It’ll be another RIAT, keep quiet and nothing will happen

Whereas the rest of us will have to jump through all sorts of hoops to keep activities going, including those indoors!!

i am not convinced.
the impact of not ā€œkeeping calm and carrying onā€ is minor in comparison to RIAT.

Air Cadets not permitted to work at RIAT - major headache
Air Cadets not permitted to glide - ah well there is always next week right?

unless there is some major reputational damage from not gliding Cadets for good reason why should they ā€œkeep calm and carry onā€

The impact of an event being cancelled shouldn’t really come into the decision if the reason for cancelling is safety.

But, it’s not looking nearly as hot this weekend as that RIAT week.

i :100: agree - but those who criticize RIAT for going ahead in 2023 believe that is the reason.
whereas it is more likely the reason it was given closer scrutiny and consideration to determine if carrying on was possible
a case of
ā€œhow we make this work? if yes can we do that with the resources availableā€ - RIAT clearly felt that they had made sufficient improvements to counter the weather

RIAT didn’t go ahead blindly ā€œkeeping calm and carrying onā€ sticking to the plan, but did so after reviewing the plan and modifying it, reacting accordingly and applying additional control measures.

my point being
cancelling the longest day is a bit of a disappointment for the Cadets and pilots involved.
cancelling Cadets attending RIAT has a far bigger impact, and so rather than cancelled, additional control measures were put in place.

the RIAT 2008 show was cancelled due to the level of rainfall received in the days/week prior to the show weekend.
RIAT 2012 showground experienced more rainfall than 2008 but the show went ahead as they (RIAT) put in place control measures after 2008 to mitigate the reasons why cancelling 2008 was necessary.
this proves that rainfall alone is not suitable measure or a reason to cancel the show as there are control measure that can be put in place to avoid a cancelled show.
the same is true for hot weather for the RAFAC RIAT Camp - that isn’t to say there isn’t a limit, but within reason control measures can be adapted to suit.

but this is a topic about gliding, not RIAT or the weather.

So plan at the beginning of the planning stage to have mitigation measures available to be used, surely that is what planning is for. It is mid-June, therefore hot weather has a high potential of occurrence, or is the money from RAFCT more important?

as i said, this is not the place to discuss RIAT or the weather - if you wish to discuss further, pick an appropriate thread
