Getting Clay Target Shooting Set up

Hi All,

This year I’ve told my squadron I’d like us to get started with Clay Target Shooting. Last year was Archery, and I think it would be good to develop another activity we can do and roll out to the wing.

I don’t have a background in shooting, and so this is ideal for me as I don’t have all the same hoops to jump through that I would if I wanted to be an SAAI, but I’m thinking once this is up and running it might convince me to get qualified in the SB/FB side of things too.

I’ve read the excellent “how-to” guide by jacques/redowling in that thread, but I was wondering if a friendly shooting person could offer some advice - I’m specifically after advice on how to get on the courses, how you go about storing shotguns, what shotguns to get and any budgeting advice anyone can give for how much this will all cost me!

We have Bisley just down the road from us which I plan to use, and also there is a clay range on our local DTE which should be available too, so probably won’t need to look at getting traps just yet.

Thanks in advance,

pEp

Not too far from Bisley… RAF Odiham has a Clay range, and theres also one at Longmoor (just of the A3).

I could put you in contact with a WO in my wing who does a cracking job running a rolling programme for squadrons, and wing cadet and staff teams.

PM me if you like.

Why not contact HQAC for the corps Clay target development officer’s contact details.
He is very helpful and can run the CPSA training course for you to get the qualifications
required.

I’m going on my skills and safety officers course this weekend B)

Dammit! Where? (by pm if you prefer)

near Edinburgh

If you can PM me your e mail address, I can e mail you the Army Rifle Association’s programme of courses for this year - a lot of which are run from Bisley. Cdt Force personnel are more than welcome to attend them.

We had the corps shotgun officer come down to us to run the shotgun safety course and its really good. I think his name is Flt Lt Alan White.
