He’s lucky he didn’t get the Gerrard loyalty requirement of threats to his family.
IIRC he has a Spanish girlfriend.
Damn
Liverpool retiring the No 20 shirt in his honour, what a terrible tragedy, which reminds us all of the fragility of life. RIP guys and condolences to two and possibly three families.
Well done
I have a 9am with a spanish customer. Do i go kitted out?
Like we did for one of our Aussi colleagues after the 2003 rugby world cup? Do it, do it, do it!
I’m surprised by the lack of comments during the women’s euros. I would have thought there would have been more. I guess the difference between the men’s and women’s game is that the women actually win.
Not long now until the Premier League returns (not that I care this year and I suspect @pEp has a sense of impending doom) follow the link below to create a Fantasy Premier League team and to join the ACC League.
The irony of this follow-up.
Honestly, I wasn’t that aware of it. Not a big TV watcher, radio listener, or social media doomscroller, so was pretty out of the loop.
That there’s some uproar and shouts of hypocrisy at Liverpool men’s spending this summer just about penetrated into my consciousness.
Only since winning have I seen a lot more stuff pop up. And congratulations to them, but if not for Kelly’s winning penalty I would have said neither side deserved to win the shoot out. No comment on the game, though apparently the ref was wearing red underneath?
And Joey Barton can suck it, because those penalties were bad penalties because they were bad penalties, not because the takers were women. I hate that that guy gets to spew bile so loud when there’s a women’s football or women-in-football conversation that it reaches me more easily than an international competition.
How about you play for your national team with a fractured tibia, Joey. Not that you could actually get on the pitch for longer than 12 minutes. Should probably focus on winning his court cases instead of trying to earn some new ones.
Failing that, go back to flashing his butt cheeks at Evertonians instead of talking out of them.
That fist-happy, football’s incarnation of Yaxley-Lemon is a stain on the sport.
Someone pointed out he’s appeared in court more than he played at Wembley, which made my day.
Liverpool are run by FSG who are very good businessmen, unlike other Premiership clubs. They are well within PSR limits and have another 300,000, in the bank to spend.
From wiki.
Charity
Barton is a patron of the Tamsin Gulvin Fund, a charity set up to support people who have addiction problems and no financial support.[218] Tony Adams, who had been impressed with Barton’s attitude during his involvement in the Sporting Chance Clinic, appointed him to this role.[218] He is a part of the ‘Get Hooked on Fishing’ campaign, designed to keep children out of trouble by encouraging them to take up fishing.[219] He has also taken part in a celebrity cricket match for charity to help fund a new children’s rehabilitation unit at a hospital in Manchester.[220] In 2011, he began writing a regular column in The Big Issue, a street newspaper sold by the homeless and vulnerably housed.[221] In 2012, Barton, along with Robbie Elliott, a former Newcastle United fullback, sponsored a shirt each from Newcastle United’s women’s team. Barton sponsored the number seven shirt, the number he wore in the men’s side.[222] In September 2013, Barton became the first player to wear rainbow laces as part of Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces Campaign to promote the inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community in sport.[223][224][225]
I don’t doubt it, but all the mockery of it “being the end of the Coutinho money” is funny to me.
PSR is 3 years I think and LFC have spent practically nothing compared to the others - a refresh and squad bolstering was long overdue.
“Buying the league” they say, after winning the league with no purchasing
As I said, FSG are very astute owners. They took over when the club was virtually bankrupt. Brought in Rodgers who did improve the team, but MHO didn’t have the 1% needed to progress. Klopp was brought in and made Liverpool a force again, I suspect that FSG knew long before the public declaration that Klopp was leaving, his team was good enough to compete when he left. The contrast is Man Utd, an utter shambles, several managers who have to work with other managers players whom they may not want, a poor training ground and stadium.
When Klopp was in his last season Liverpool looked at Amorin, but he didn’t play a system that Liverpool would play, Xavi Alonso wanted to stay where he was. When they looked at Arne Slott, it is rumoured they talked to Klopp, whose reply was ‘cool’.
FSG have and are continuing a rebuilding programme at Anfield, didn’t want to move, unlike Everton. They built a new training facility at Kirby, initially closed Melwood and sold it. They have since bought Melwood back and is now home to the Women’s team.
All male teams play together at Kirby, the young players coming up can see daily the senior team training at the same place. The Academy under Neil Atcherly has very strict rules for his players, no car above 1.3l, no flashy watches, no mobile phones at training, and no-one on more than £50k a year.
I would have happily accepted top 4 under Slott, but he has exceeded all expectations with the same team from Klopp.
I liked Rodgers, felt he waned (or maybe burned out) similarly to later Benitez.
FSG have definitely been solid from the start, took some flak a couple of times where there was some season to season inconsistencu, but believed in their methods. The depth of data analysis on players is mad, and they’ve not missed often and when they have not hugely; the flops generally haven’t been as hard as many can be.
I’ve had a greater sense with Liverpool in recent years that their targets are more deliberate than many others. United, for example, seem to have just been throwing spaghetti at the wall.
Financial rules aside, City have opted for the biggest new names seemingly to stop others getting them as much as actually wanting them.
Arsenal have been a bit more below the radar and shrewd as they’ve built, but have just missed that final polish somehow.
Chelsea have been the same, Areteta ar Arsenal to me hasn’t that 1% to make it to the top.
The team to watch is Brentford as their data analysis is the same as Liverpool, and they have got one of the best goalkeepers in the prem in Kellaher. He fully deserved his move and I like many were sad to see him go, a brilliant servant to the club, and we wished him all the best.
Kelleher was great for Liverpool. Served his apprenticeship while stepping up when called upon so fully deserving of a number 1 somewhere.
A loss, but will be good to see him in action more.
I can tell you he’s going to have plenty of opportunity to prove his worth, given we’ve sold the rest of the team.
You’ve got an experienced leader in Henderson, who has been there and done it.
