Not that I can see - what precisely did you have in mind?
Why do we need to have different ranks with different pay? Itâs absurd, we all have the same responsibilities as a CFAV and some do extra on activities so why do certain ranks need to be paid more?
I think that will be the model they move to eventually, a responsibility based setup. Itâs a complex thing though with lots of activities having peculiarities surrounding them and the roles people take on.
Because thatâs the world we live in and have done since the inception of the ATC.
This was argued not that long ago and no one could agree on what the best case was
Simple, specific tasks have specific pay or easier still, pay everyone the same regardless of rank
I think that is probably the best route forward, simply pay a set rate renumeration for everyone.
This will save us a hell a lot of cash, which can then be invested into the cadets.
And Sqn OCs the bread and butter of the org who cant commit 28 days a year on top of everything else get paid the same as a Sgt in your worldâŚ
Sling your hook.
Where at all would be the incentive to move up and take command if you get the same.
It will be a saving for the MoD. But i doubt itâll be reinvested in any way - itll be absorbed into a budgetary shortfall.
And next year when the bean counters come knocking, theyâll just want more.
That might come in year 2 or 3, as the number of RAFAC staff will further diminish.
This is clearly the kill the Corps threadâŚ
So whilst weâre at itâŚ
2nd brassard, more badges.
Keep the region HQ level.
Dont give our weapons back.
All as good an idea as equal VA.
99.999999% of the time we are all stood around because the rules dictate we have to be, all doing the same thing, so why we have different rates is an anachronistic hang up related to our pretend ranks.
This idea really brings up the whole notion that holding a particular rank makes any difference and the motive for promotion is money. This would matter if we got âpaidâ for doing the day to day stuff, to compensate for the grind that has developed over the last decade or so for those running squadrons. But we donât. But we all get âpaidâ (and taxed etc) for doing things that are effectively nothing to do with the average parade night. I personally feel all adult staff should get âpaidâ the same and remove the nonsense of us and them. This then would force those running the Air Cadets to assess what makes becoming say a sqn cdr worth the effort.
I think we should regard ourselves as extremely lucky we get this money as there are plenty out there in youth group volunteering who get nothing other than refunded expenses and in many cases get nothing and will have the same degree of responsibility in terms of looking after other peopleâs children.
If the idea came to remove âpayâ would people really leave and or stop doing things? Which would be extremely insulting to all those as I mentioned who potentially get nothing other than expenses.
To work work within this debilitating framework and receive nothing then yes. I would go.
So would a fair percentage.
There are TOO many MANDATED courses we MUST attend for us to do our âhobbyâ for us not to get paid for them.
Seperatly
The point about Sqn OCs getting paid more as Flt Lts is simple.
If I were a sgt I could say âsod offâ at any time Iâm not doing that admin etc. As OC I dont have a choice.
All that unpaid time is extensive hence I cant commit on top of that to lots of extra weekend or day off stuff.
Therefore when I do I should be paid more to off set this.
On an annual basis I probably net the same as a sgt doing more days but earning less.
But I have to do a damn sight more for the VA. Overall.
Cant stop being OC as Sqn will close. Just like a dozen others in my Wing.

What/Who is an Aviation Officer under MOD Civil servant?
I truly hope that would occur.
But I suspect Batfink would be right considering the way in which the lack of VA claims during the gliding pause has been used to offer savings - references being FOIâs for the ACMB
Theyâre CGS full time flying instructors
Definitely not needed then
Absolute rubbish.
Iâm a Delivery Duty Holder. APO Bloggs who hasnât yet attended OIC does not hold the same level of responsibility as I do.
In your day job, does everyone get paid the same? If not, why not?
