FMT 600 - why?

if group C is lorries and articulates then yes, MOD employees (drivers) are permitted to drive these vehicles under the age of 21 which is not permitted otherwise

but doesnt answer my question on how such drivers gain the category on their licence

Sorry Neil, couldn’t resist it

I wasn’t being authoritative, just joining in the conversation old chap. Nice selective editing, been waiting a while to pull that out of the bag have you? It does look quite ironic to the first glance, I’ll give you that. You must be a right bore in the bar.

Oh, and why do you keep calling me Neil? If that was indeed my real name I would have reported you to the mods by now for compromising my ID.

I’ll tell you my real name if you PM me yours if you really want to know.

I always thought the biggest MoD/DVLA difference was being able to drive an MBT at 17…

The range of vehicles used by the MoD is ridiculous, you may have a CAT C but you wouldn’t be able to jump in a bomb disposal wedgewood or a 6T MAN SV having full confidence in knowing what was where! I’m a service instructor at my local squadron so I already hold an FMT but even I have to have a fam on a particular vehicle carried out and written on my FMT600 before I can even sign out the keys.

My squadron is now putting me on a CT2:1 course so it’s nice and easy for them to transport ammunition for range weekends, I suppose not every squadron has that luxury

There seems to be a lot of fuss about this. My 600 is dated 2007, issued at Honington. I have an in-date Matrix (Highway Code test), a valid, clean, civvie licence B and D1. I have taken these two documents to all sorts of RAF Stations: Cranditz, Aldergrove, Boulmer, Coningsby, High Wycombe,… over the past 6 years, and no-one has ever asked if I’ve signed MT Orders at Honington in the last 6 years (I haven’t). They look at my civvie licence, check I’m not banned etc, and matrix test, sometimes ask if I’ve driven a minibus in the last year, give me their own MT orders to read and sign, then give me some sort of piece of paper to say I can drive their vehicles. The age of my 600 is irrelevant, like the age of my civvie licence. What matters is the expiry date, in this case of my matrix test (2015). Signing orders at Honington is irrelevant as I will have to sign their orders anyway, they might be different (not much, but sometimes a bit). Sure, it matters that I’m not banned, I have the right licence and I’m familiar with the vehicle type. The rest is frippery, and all MT sections seem sensible in my experience!

They have? Well at least the matrix test has been: http://bfgnet.de/matrix/index.php

Someone at your WHQ or RHQ should hold MT orders too, arrange to meet them or get a copy? I agree that it’s still not as simple as it should be but this surely takes some of the pain away. :pinch:

Interesting. Are UK based MTOs accepting this (since it’s a BFG initiative).

I’m aware WHQ have the admin orders. I haven’t said otherwise :?: :?: :?:

Possibly. I know the BFG system has been advertised by a large RAF station MT for the completion of the European Matrix Test, which previously had to be completed in their offices (similarly the UK one too).

My Matrix test done via BFG fully accepted
