Flying Scholarships

I see that applications for the Air Cadet Pilot Scheme (ACPS) for FY 2025/26 are now open. Does anyone know when applications for Gliding Scholarships will follow?

For those of you based down South (Near Goodwood)

The Rob Wildeboer Scholarship is available

I think its quite nice that donations have continued to support additional scholarships in Rob’s memory!

BA have introduced some Work Experience Days (and weeklong) programs… might be of interest to some who are interested in a non-flying role.

Can confirm, as Bob says, that UK nationals definitely do have the right to live & work in Ireland.

BA Speedbird Pilot Academy applications are open again!

I’ve applied again, any one else trying again?

Nah, I’ll give others a chance!

I might do it for a laugh, then work out how the heck to get home if I somehow make an assessment centre.

I don’t have any formal wear with me though, so might need to rig something up for the video recording bits.

The first few stages are just simple online tests. Pass/Fail. I’ve just completed the situational judgement one!

Interesting that last time you had 4 possible answers and had to select the one you thought was most appropriate. This time it’s asking for most and least, which made it more interesting.

Just done the maths test too. Finished with 4 mins to go! I wish I had a smartwatch with heart rate sensor as I reckon it’s going faster than with exercise, even though the questions were relatively easy :joy:

This pdf on Flight Training International is quite handy

Though they still say (on the grid) that RAFAC offer the following scholarships (which i’m 99% sure we dont - unless you count the upcoming drone schemes as Airsports)

  • Advanced Fixed Wing
  • Helicopter
  • Airsports

@Wizzle does reaching out to someone at FTN come under your remit?

Did you put in an application in the end?

I’ve just had it confirmation I passed the test modules, so I have been sent an invitation to do the communication activity!

Anyone else applying?

I’ve started the process, will complete later today.

Not sure how I’ll do the recordings as I didn’t bring a suit with me.

The bit I’m up to says that it is audio only:

So you should be fine.

(That’s from the email so no spoilers)

Just completed that task. It made clear again multiple times that they’re only going to listen to the audio and not use the video, even though it’s there.

I hope that’s true, as I’m not looking great in a crappy webcam video :joy:

It was a very interesting task.

Good luck!

If anyone else is applying, and just keeping quiet, this video is great:

Goes into some real detail about what the next stages look like if you get through.
