Hi, I am a cadet aiming to take to the skies and fly. First I need to get selected. Once I am selected, what all forms do I need to bring other than the health one and your weight in kilo? Do I need to bring passport or anything else on the day?
Thank you so much
@Barryhawk4 welcome to the forums.
Once you’re selected to go flying, you’ll need to fill out and return an aviation medical form 1. This needs to be filled out truthfully by your parent or other legal gradian.
No need for anything like a passport. Hopefully you’ll be taking off and landing in the same country!
If emailing , how should I structure it? Should I say add to flying list?
As in emailing your OC? Just keep it simple. Let the OC know you want to apply for the upcoming flying detail. At our squadron, we do this selection via cadet portal, but no harm in a quick email to the OC saying you’re keen to go.
As above. Phrase it as a polite request, don’t be demanding - as CFAV we don’t have a magic pot of flying slots to hand out like sweets - so we often have to use prioritisation to select the cadets who will be offered a particular slot.
Typically the longer serving cadets who haven’t flown yet will have ‘priority’ but that’s a local decision and entirely up to your OC. I’d recommend sending the email to the squadron account (XXXX@rafac.mod.gov.uk - where the X’s are your sqn number) rather than directly to the OC, as it can be picked up by any member of the staff team.
