A topic for people to offer support and advice for those affected by recent flooding.
Not my unit, but I’m sure they could use the help.
The Sea Cadets were hit very hard too sadly
It’s horrible all round. Hoping for a fast as possible recovery for all those hit.
Any chance Chippenham air cadets could help with the clear up?
A good chance to come together to support each other.
Those photos look very bad.
Standard spooner hut.
Water level is above the height of the floor.
Plasterboard will be a write off. All of it. Bare in mind those huts are pushing 90 years old now.
Electrics will be flooded.
Anything on the floor will be written off.
Looks like there is outdoor equipment of some kind too. Poor sods.
I suspect RFCA will declare the building unsalvagable.
I note 1304 has a df at Mod corsham. Perhaps they should merge there?
Apologies it helps to read the whole thread
Perhaps this would allow funds for a joint SCC / ATC building?
Just googled their location.
They are litteraly 5 meters from the river avon… what a stupid location.
Then again… hasnt flooded before or that badly i guess.
Still.
What a sad state of affairs.
I see someone has donated ÂŁ1000 though. Nice one.
Id put money on that happening, with ACF aswell
Time for a JCC, but maybe not there again…
Fingers crossed the RFCA can pull their finger out and get this sorted. And hopefully the CWC and SCC equivalent had insurance that covered flooding.
But it would be perfect for sea cadets so elevated building with boat slipway?
Also allows the Sqn to go kayaking at unit as well.
That would be ideal!
Google maps shows there’s a sailing and kayaking club there too, which I assume is also badly effected. I really hope they can come together and work out a good long term solution.
Hahahahahahahaha
Are you new?
Isn’t that standard for SCC units? Certainly my local one are by the river, makes sense for small boats.
I don’t think you can have a Joint Centre with the SCC. They don’t use RFCA, they either own or rent their accommodation, and RFCA are notoriously territorial.
Anyone know of any joint SCC sites?
For the SCC? Because we all know what happens when you raise money for an ATC building…
(And if you don’t, boy do I have an FOI thread for you!)
yes indeed - altho’ oddly 282 Sqn have a slightly different road address on this website they are in the same building
Current register of Cadet units within Greater London
London Borough of Newham
Newham (Cornwell VC) Unit SCC, Cornwell VC Cadet Centre, Vicarage Lane, East Ham, London E6 6AB
43 Cadet Detachment ACF, Cornwall VC Cadet Centre, Vicarage Lane, East Ham, London E6 6AB
282 (East Ham) Squadron ATC, Cornwall VC Cadet Centre, Vicarage Farm Road, Heston, London E6 6AB
That’s interesting.
Although, let’s be honest, if you weren’t under the thumb of RFCA, would you want to be?
is it?
many of the Sea Cadets site i know of are on a river bank or stones throw to the water…it makes sense to have the Sea Cadets near water doesn’t it?
We don’t see many Navy bases 10+ miles inland!
edit: @daws1159 beat me to it
