Fitbit watches

Hi all,

On parade yesterday I had a cpl talking about how a watch can’t be digital according to acp 1358 and only manual, then another said of inconspicuous nature while wearing a shiny silver watch, but allegedly that’s OC approved but I can’t wear a simple Fitbit with a matte light blue band, if I changed it to black would they still kick off?

The wording in policy is very vague

A watch of inconspicuous style may also be worn.

A fitbit with a light blue/black band should be absolutely fine! If the person telling you off is wearing a silver, shiny one then there’s little they can really say.

If it turns into a disagreement, raise it with someone else.

They claimed the OC approved it

Yeah they’re wrong. A fit bit is fine.

Half the military is running Garmins, so…

My line is drawn at pink/yellow/bright green, etc.

People get hung up about the weirdest insignificant thing in uniform.

On a Tuesday parade night, being on time is more important of the colour of watch. it’s a non-issue
On a Remembrance Sunday parade. Fair enough.

Agree, there is a time and a place for daftness and a random parade night is not it.

I’m just happy when my cadets actually wear a watch

Ah, one advantage of CCF: we can apply school rules on phones, which means they don’t have them for parade and most of them do wear a watch, therefore.

Unfortunately we are now in school exams and they aren’t allowed any sort of watch in exams any more (too easy to hide a cheating device)

The Cpl is talking out of their rusty bullet hole, you can wear either analogue or digital watches.

was this cpl recently promoted and is on a power trip or…?

Clearly has not read ACP1358 anyways

Edit:

Can OCs give approval to break ACP1358?

It sounds like another of the dread ‘local’ rules - something that I repeatedly had to call out a former WO (ATC) for; the type who would regularly say ‘When I was in the army’…

Nope RCs only

I wear a Fitbit all the time so sue me!

They at least keep NCO courses interesting. Maybe not in a good way…

Are people really complaining about Fitbits? Seriously, as long as the watch isn’t flashing or playing music, who cares?

Just an overzealous JNCO by the sounds of it.

My Standard response when the NCOs or Stick Wavers point out these ‘important’ deviations is

‘Noted. Thankyou’

I go with ‘I’ll bear that in mind’ or ‘I’ll look into it’ but the sentiment’s the same!
