Hi everyone! First time poster. I am really for the idea of badges for the fieldcraft PTS and was wondering if the corps has any updates at all about it? I have attached my concept of the badge and was wondering if they are looking at anything similar? If anyone has opinions on my concept feel free to share them I would appreciate feedback.
Personally I think we have too many badges, and all they do is create badge collectors who sign up for the badge not the experience or learning.

Too complicated - & the rifle looks like a .303 but with an SLR magazine! 
Anyway, as Fieldcraft is a lot about camouflage - you shouldn’t see them!

Regardless of the position on having a fieldcraft badge in the first place, I think we also need to be careful to ensure that badges don’t look a little bit too much like the logos of Hezbollah (or any other terrorist group for that matter…)

This really leads onto a good topic… Because it’s so true there’s too many cadets now days just looking for badges not the factor of leaning new skills and it shows. I watched a cadet video from 2015/2016 and the cadets seem interested in what there being taught and the cadets teaching have seem to also have a genuine interest and ability to teach.
As I know this isn’t true to all cadets and there is some that do find interest in a lot of different topics I do find there’s many just looking for badges.

I actually do feel this way sometimes as well that cadets take courses and go on events just for the badge but I think this badge should be added and the reason it exists, like all others, is to show achievement not to be a collectors item.
My personal view on PTS badges.
They should only be awarded when you are a SME of the area/able to instruct it. Some of the blue entry stuff is a walk in the park. So id argue silver/gold level
Don’t want to be that guy, but in my day badges were actually quite hard to achieve and meant something….

Fully agree. We should replace classification badges with AS2 / AS1 ranks and then use badges sparingly to identify first aiders (by which I don’t mean everyone who’s done EFA!), instructors, etc.

Couldn’t agree more. And I’d be supportive of the silver and gold concept.
A badge for actually mastering something, an enhanced one for being able to instruct it.
Any developing progress could be logged in support of generally moving up and through the core classifications.
yeh, if I can actually use you as a first aider, then great.

Around 15 years ago, ‘reading weeks’ were stopped at my University, as students were just using them as holiday, and not actually using them to study. A couple of years later, someone within the executive board had a great idea to introduce ‘Consolidation Weeks’, where students had a week without lectures, in order to consolidate the previous 5 weeks of learning. But these weren’t the same as reading weeks, because they were for consolidating.
Anyway, here’s my great idea for a brassard with less badges that are more meaningful

We can do better than that. In my day, the top classification didn’t have a badge (you removed the senior air cadet badge on completing staff part 2 and just wore the lanyard) and there were only two marksmanship badges (the top one being the same as the equivalent RAF badge).
Possibly going against the grain here, but I kinda support the new badges, even in their excess.
There’s often comments that cadets are doing events just to get badges etc. But I think that might be a good thing.
Is it a bad thing if a cadet goes and does some road marching with the main intension to get the badge? Without the badge they may have otherwise not bothered at all. Instead they’re out they’re trying something different and might just end up finding something they enjoy!

Regardless on your opinion of how many badges there should be, can we all agree that is too many complicated shapes/colours/sizes for one brassard? The current one is bad enough…
Part of me agrees with you.
But then I’d build in more core syllabus requirements so that cadets need to secure knowledge in order to advance.
I think we could award digital badges on the CP profile to show progress at a glance, but then mostly award core classification badges + instructor level badges to show significant accomplishment.
