Female cover on activities

I would take this up as high as you can. It’s certainly not something we’ve ever had a problem with.

It is an utterly ridiculous rule. I cannot think of an occasion where having a female member of staff would be the be-all-and-end-all. If there was a medical emergency you’d either call the paramedics or if it was that serious you’d get on and apply first aid, regardless of gender or age.

Did they give you rationale for this lunacy?

You could always invite the commandant to your parade. That ought to be the cover.

Every now and then you read something on here amongst the usual minor gripes which really makes you think that the ACO employs some absolute spanners…
This one takes the cake!

I don’t think I’ve heard of something quite so retarded in years!

Tell wing that their parents are on call and close at hand.

If all else fails, sod integrity - just lie.

[quote=“the silverback” post=21825]WHQ have confirmed with HQAC a female member of staff must be “on call” at all times.

“On call” does not mean that they actually have to be present. I assume you have the phone number of at least one female member of staff? Job jobbed.

I would say as above. Female member of staff who could be called should a problem occur.

Senior cadets who are cleared are able to supervise but not are not to be solely accountable.

It could be there parent and as you would have a PIPE and Nominal role I would say all is sorted.

If not just don’t tell the whole truth

Is anyone still having problems in this area? I have recently been working closely with a Squadron in a different Wing/Region and they seem to have a most perverse interpretation of the rules.

In my Wing/Region they are happy for us to run activities including overnight camps using over 18 cadets as members of staff to make up the 1:10 ratios (so 2 members of staff and 1 staff cadet would be sufficient to supervise 30 cadets). They are also happy for us to use a female staff cadet as our female staff cover (so in the above scenario 2 male members of staff and a female staff cadet could take away 30 cadets of mixed genders on an activity).

This other wing however won’t even authorise a PIPE with female cadets on it for 2 hours of street collections without a female member of staff let alone anything more drastic. They are also insistent about having female staff on minibuses going to an activity (so if you have 3 buses going to camp from 3 locations they all need a female member of staff or you need to segregate your buses!). Surely they are on some form of drugs at there WHQ/RHQ?!?!

If this is your WExO, ask your Wing Commander to intervene.

Agreed. They are quite clearly taking recreational substances.

My wing are fine, it’s a neighbouring Wing I’ve been assistings WExO who appear to be the issue for his Squadrons. Not sure if it’s just the one Wing or if it’s the whole Region.
