And it’s because Gwynedd includes Anglesey, as well as all the Scottish counties that include islands, I believe.

points to Gryffindor!
although there are some grey areas, like about whether the Isle of Wight is classed as Hampshire or not (as it is for some services), and the Scilly Isles are English too…
What about
Shropshire?
Herefordshire?
Wiltshire?
Oxfordshire?
Berkshire?
Surrey?
Warwickshire?
Leicesteshire?
Staffordshire?
Cambridgeshire?
Buckinghamshire?
Bedfordshire?
Rutland?
Nottinghamshire?
Derbyshire?
Worcestershire?
They don’t have continuous coastlines???

W3W just added grid references to their app, update your app, then display settings - then have have 6, 8, or 10 fig reference.
Okay, that’s pretty damn useful now! Time to reinstall the app I guess
That’s epic.
Now, actually super useful.
Doesn’t having grid refs make the three words redundant?
Depends if you have an OS Map or not I guess.
Depends who you are communicating with, certainly in my old force the 3 Words would get a better response than a GR, but if you are working with Mountain Rescue they would rather have the GR.
I get my groups to have OS Locate and W3W downloaded on their phones l, now they don’t need to have OS locate (although it still has some useful features).
Call made to Fire and Rescue while I was on call today.
W3W reference provided by caller to the control room: Display.Explode.Dabble
First person to spot the issue wins….

It’s in Ohio…
They would have been if people had turned out to the location they provided…
Correct.
The word explode should have been “explained”, but was misheard over a poor phone connection. Given this was only provided information also, it wasn’t much to go off!
Was useful on a recent exercise to have it listed on the maps. My EASP and Map has the ERV with GR and W3W, as well as the main admin area for assembly.
Parents dropping cadets off or retrieving them due to issues, asked what three words to find you.
Really useful on a military training area. If I gave them a postcode, it would have taken them 3 miles away… So was able for any staff to see this and to relay it.
Will be including in admin orders and joining instructions in the future.
There’s a use for it.
But communicating location in an emergency isn’t it.
To be fair, no different than mishearing or mistranscribing a grid reference or postcode. NOT a W3W issue.
With the advantage that a quick check would show it as obviously wrong so more likly to be picked up that a close but not quite error
