EFA - Timescales

Quick question for anyone who’s done this, how many parade nights does EFA take?

One…
But you need a full 2 hours on it in the night.

Any more than 1 night is obscene.

Yeah, this is technically correct, for us. However I’ve found this pretty weird as it’s a standard St Johns course, and the normal EFA course is 3 hours for adults and 4 hours for all ages if delivered by them. We’re squeezing it into a parade night to suit.

Chest compressions only no rescue breaths.

Saves time.

Its super basic stuff.
2 hours is still really smashing it.

BUT.
If you have less than 1 annie between 2. Then it probably will take 2 nights.

We have two Annie’s and find it takes 2 nights for a group of 8 if everyone’s going to get a really good practise.

I don’t see a reason to rush through it either. Take your time, deliver some high quality training. It could save a life.

Throw in lots of “review and refresh” nights through the year. :+1:

I tend to do it on a weekend and run 10-4 but cover things in detail and then have a scenario run through at the end. If running on an evening I would do it over 2.

I agree. It can be done in 2 hours but really should take longer

We also do it over two parade nights, go into detail with some scenario’s. I don’t believe in rushing it, we also do refresher nights throughout the year - it could save someone’s life.

We take 2 nights or a day.

Better consolidation, more practice, more knowledge.

Better prepared if they need to put it into action.

Also, better able to focus on other things once they progress to YFA because the number of times (harking back to HS days at this point) others’ cadets have needed severe correction on CPR technique or were completely blank on primary survey as if they never actually did the pigging lower course.

Err, what about one Annie…?

Eekk…

Maybe ask around to borrow some.
Or buy a couple?
They are pretty cheap.

You could do a first aid week.
Basics of the qual on one night, then a competition on the second night. Think there is a template for competitions in the relevant ACTO on sharepoint

£202?

Cheap for some units maybe…

Smash a grant application in whilst you still can, before you have to give all of your monies to Wing.

Turn around for apps in my wing is 18months plus!

To be honest, since the refurb more than halved our stores space, we don’t have enough room for any!

Buy in bulk.

Maybe ask another Sqn to split costs.
Raise a grant.

Yes. They are cheap. If your Sqn hasnt got a slare £200 your civ com need to explain.

External grants.
Dont use the rafac ones. Utterly pointless.

There’s internal RAFAC grants?! :flushed::thinking:

They are gash. Dont bother.
Its a bent to the limits of corruption system.

Gave up applying after 5 attempts.

In one grant app from extenal i raised 8 times what i could ever have hopes for from internal grants anyway.

People just need to type ‘grant applications’ into google!

We as a centre have been recently told that the moratorium on rescue breaths has been lifted. Therefore centres should now teach and practice rescue breaths.

Or are SJA begging to differ?
