I saw this on a recent news item and was wondering why the cadets involved were wearing two sets of wings. I would have thought they would only wear the”highest” award albeit credit due for their achievements. Is this the accepted dress now for cadets in No1 HSD?
I’m not criticising just curious. It was an article about Lord Lts cadets so the wearing of No1 uniform is correct in this instance AFAIK.
I was under the impression they wore one set for gliding and one for powered flying? Although I’ve been pretty far detached from uniform stuff for a while!
Yes, it is Grandfather rights - if they earnt both badges the old way they can continue to wear them until they leave. Anyone awarded under the new syllabus (Jan 2022) can only wear one as Flying & Gliding are now combined.
Currently issue is the ‘RAFAC’ labelled badges, only one to be worn signifying the highest attainment gained (which can be on either powered or glider).
Some cadets have ‘grandfather’ rights to the old style badges and, as in the picture could wear two; however if a higher badge was subsequently attained under the new syllabus then only a single ‘RAFAC’ badge would then be worn.
For Blue/ Bronze ‘RAFAC’ badge is worn on the lower part of the left shoulder patch on the jumper - not in the position related to the old ‘A’ / ‘G’ badges, or in the centre - I see so many cadets getting this wrong.
