Time scale was 9 years to get to Flt Lt unpaid as a VRT Officer. It still is for those who are still VRT. Same as Redowling stated And that NEP was a ‘mark time’. Officers could also have 6 months away without penalty if they could prove it was part of they employment.
I can confirm from personal experience at the time that attending the Senior Officers Course was needed as despite 15yrs as a Fg Off previously, after I stepped down as a Flt Lt from being a Sqn OC, I had to go back to Fg Off as I hadnt done the Seniors course.

I think the seniors course thing might have been a local fad. I certainly don’t remember there being a stipulation in 20B to that effect; I could be wrong of course.
