Do you interact with other cadet forces?

Quick straw poll - do you/your squadron interact with the other local cadet forces? How is the relationship? Do you do joint events? Did you initiate it, or did they? Do you share staff? Do you share resources? Do you share facilities? Does that help/hinder the relationship?

Of sorts yes
Polite
No
We did
No
No
Yes
Helps

However, the building we share is large enough for us not to have the usual problems most units have.

Not at all.

We see them on Remembrance Day, and that’s it. We share with the ACF, have all 3 sections of CCF down the road and a SCC unit not far away. We have some cadets that are members of the CCF, but that’s the only “link” we have with them!

It’s pretty poor really, and something we could look to change. The problems we have are unfathomably ridiculous ACF local commanders, who have tried to throw every obstacle in our way possible (even though we parade different nights!) and not knowing the contacts for the others.

We have a friendly relationship with the ACF who we share a site but not a building with and our local SCC are very helpful and let our band practice at their unit (our caretaker doesn’t like a marching band going past his window every Wednesday)

At present the only joint event we do is a competition weekend once a year organised under project YOU by the DL. (Current Champions) which involves both ATC units both ACF units the SCC the VPC and the Scouts from the borough.

Yes ACF
Pretty good
Only parades really. Joint things have been discussed but never materilised. We have tried to get 5.56 shooting sessions jacked up but never happened due to calendar clashes
I must admit to being keen (see below) to get the ball rolling, due to the ATC’s intransigence over full bore shooting, but it works well
Yes - FA, weapons and DofE, they do 5.56 WI for us and get ticketed staff up to speed for WHT and we help with DofE bits. Their cadets come on our expeds. One of my staff does the FA training and they assess.
No we are separate entities, despite RFCA trying to combine us a few years ago. They couldn’t due to no land/too expensive. Reeeeeeeeeeeesult. As far as we’re concerned, it’s better to be neighbours than flatmates.

We interact with the SCC and ACF. Mainly the ACF. There is a local event that happens every year and a member of our staff and a member of theirs is on the Committee so we interact because of that. The relationship is ok ,I would say it could be better. That could improve in the future as there is a possibility we will be sharing accommodation soon (not looking forward to that myself but that is my opinion).
The SCC are keen to do joint band events with us but we are apprehensive. The idea is if they can reach the same standard we are and play at the same rate then fine but at the moment it wouldn’t fit - a working progress I guess you could say.
We don’t share staff, resources or facilities at the moment. I would also say it was a neutral person who initiated the interaction.

In the past we have interacted with one of the 3 CCF units in out area. (YES 3 SCHOOLS HAVE A CCF IN ONE TOWN, SMALL TOWN???). They used to offer us flying / gliding spaces they couldn’t fill, very nice for us. We also have a large amount of our cadets who used to attend that CCF unit, their choice to leave them and join us.

I’d like to interact more in local events as I think it is good to show the cadets that we all need to work together and this is definitely an action for next year on our Squadron.

Quick straw poll -
Do you/your squadron interact with the other local cadet forces?
Yes, ACF and SCC.
How is the relationship?
Excellent
Do you do joint events?
We have regular sporting competitions against the ACF, do joint weapons and FA training with them and we all do a bunch of weapons drill with the SCC in the run up to big parades.
Did you initiate it, or did they?
Bit of both, the links have been there longer than I have.
Do you share staff?
Only for the aforementioned training sessions.
Do you share resources?
We share weapons, our range and a selection of planks and tires for leadership tasks with the ACF.
Do you share facilities?
We share a compound with the ACF.
Does that help/hinder the relationship?
It seems to help.

We see them at Remembrance Parade and that’s about it, we have SCC & ACF in teh same town as us, and are looking to complete more tri-service activities, the new ACF Commander is ex RAF. Both ourselves and ACF are affiliated with the RBL, so this will help. Looking to have some competitions and joint training, particularly on the shooting side.

This is one of our aims for 2013

We share a building with ACF, but not resources, activities or Staff.
We used to have a good relationship, but since their Head man got bumped up to County level, the new person in charge hasn’t made themselves known to us yet. No doubt our first meeting wil be when I have to go and complain about the state of the canteen or something else similarly petty…

We share a building and range (although for the past year the only signatures in the range log have been ours…)

The ACF headshed came in to introduce himself about a month after he took over, and I provided him with my mobile, Bader email and work email, and he was going to ping me his contact details. We did discuss the possibility of pooling resources and activities but nothing has come of it to date, and to be frank I’ve had more important things to deal with.

Haven’t heard a peep out of him since.

Mind you at least I haven’t come in to the building since to find half empty pot noodle tubs, empty fish and chip wrappers, fired sir rifle pellets and other assorted rubbish since.

So I suppose the relationship can be described as friendly yet distant!

Just had a phonecall from a newly commissioned officer at our local CCF(RAF).

He visited us to see how the ATC got on with things and what he could pick up from us.

I’ve happily offered to help him out in the ways and means of what we can do, and I’m off to visit their parade “afternoon” tomorrow!

Our unit is on a TA centre. The local bush-hiders are downstairs. It is their behaviour that seems ot limit our access to other parts of the building. Friendly yet distant as Perry Mason puts it is exactly how ours is!

Good relations with ACF and SCC
Joint activities during the towns full week of " Armed Forces" events in June.
No working relationship with the local CCF - they only participate in Remembrance Sunday and their standard of dress is generally very poor

And +1 from me, on that interface with ACF. May be a universal experience. All the more distant in that we don’t (currently) share accom.

wilf_san

Interestingly, we seem to have a better relationship (as do other local ATC units) with the TA fellows whom we lodge with, than the ACF det!

Yes mainly at formal public events but also an Inter Cadet Force local shooting comp
Friendly - we would wish to see it develop into a more partnership based relationship.
Only the aforementioned ones currently.
Shared.
No other than the local ACF CSgt does our WHT’s as we currently have no SAAI.
Yes - Building and grounds (ACF) eventually they will share our Air Rifle Range too. We both share the TA 25m indoor range.
At the moment some aspects are hindering our development desires in terms of the building etc, but other than that no issues.
