Designing new Squadron Crest and Motto

if you’re so sure, are you the Corps badge officer?

yeh, fair enough - this aligns with what I understood. So (this isn’t meant to be a confrontational question, I’m just interested, so please try and be polite and measured in your reply! ) why are the RAF allowed laurel wreaths around theirs, but you say hell would freeze over before we’re allowed them on ours?

Most dont.

Its the detail through.
If a Sqn cant even care enough to have their Badge correct… well… says it all.

Doesnt need ÂŁ500 spent on it with the College of Arms. Just someone who can draw and understand the rules as laid out.

Most offending badges could be corrected keeping elements of the original.

Shame really.

Heraldic reasons and its allowed in the template of their circlet.

The ATC circlet design doesnt allow for laurel wreaths.

Basically all ATC sqn designs are taken from the ATC main badge.

No.
But, close enough to.

Best thing to do.is look John up in outlook tommorow. Email him and ask for the specification.
He will gladly give you all the gen better than I could.

Nice guy (will talk your arm off though…)
He can.help any Sqn with any badge enquiry.

Would be nice to see all 960 Sqns comply with this basic standard. Would really be something.

I live somewhere where internet and electricity use isn’t restricted to 0900-1700, so I have all the technology to do it here and now  :tada:

Lol… yeah ok.
Was thinking as its midnight…

But sure, email him now.
CAUTION… he may phone you straight back.

tbh, I know so little about badges I didn’t even know there was a Corps badge officer :man_shrugging:

Found an even worse one…
Just googled ATC badges and :face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting::face_vomiting:

211 got it spot on. Even went and had it made up Officially.

About 20 Sqns have done so now I believe at last chat with John.

My spidey sense tells me there are a couple of 211 staff who occasionally frequent this forum, I’m sure they’ll be relieved that they passed your test

I also note that the main RAF badge fails one of your bugbears, in that the central image crosses the outer circle. It also doesn’t have a laurel wreath, yet all(?) Sqn and Station badges do. Any idea why?

Paracetamol

Your over-reaction to an utterly trivial issue is hilarious.

Cos it’s the master badge so allowed.

Ask john ref laurel leaves. All I know is ATC arent allowed them. He will have exact reasons why.
Can you let us know here after asking?

Lol Alvin.

What you fail to grasp is, I actually dont really care.
But its interesting convo and highlights areas of our org most dont think about often.

Wowzers… if you think I would lose sleep over an ATC sqns doodles…
Lol.

Seemingly quite well.
But thanks.

You don’t really care…?

You care enough to come on this forum and comment about some random squadron badge like they’ve committed some heinous crime! You clearly care more than you’d like to admit.

Somebody in that unit did their best to draw up a badge

I still think the College of Arms poking around Scottish squadron badges is dubious at best.

Sqn badges are an emotive subject.

I dont really care, as it’s not life and death

It’s not a heinous crime. No cadet or CFAV were injured. It’s just a point of admin. It is in the regs.

I stand by the fact that any Sqn badge which does not meet compliance should be redesigned to meet compliance.

Frankly HQAC should issue the rulings to everyone, issue a deadline to get it done by. Badges can be changed easily.

I mean, any Sqn still using the old 1990s ATC logo?
No? Why?
They changed their media and marketing.

Edit to add.
I’m not a monster btw… HQACs deadline should be 5 years to allow stocks of old branded stuff to be used up first and a new badge or redesigned badge to have time to be created without stress.

Agreed

Edit. Just rethought what you said…

The college of arms, usually only gets involved in cases where badge copyright etc has been infringed.
They dont tend to get involved with lower level politics etc.

Must be serious if they are ‘poking around’…

I would absolutely agree 100% with you if HQAC/Badge officer/whoever else gets their pants in a twist about badges offered to do all of the work.

I inherited our squadron badge, neither my staff nor I have degrees in graphic design, and to be perfectly honest, I’ll always have much more Important stuff to give my time to, so I’ll just crack on using my old, probably non-compliant squadron badge.

This is true for most units.
They dont go out their way to be non compliant!

Definitely agree HQAC should provide support and assistance to help Sqns get compliant.

It’s good for the Sqn.
It’s good for wider PR.
It’s good for the Orgs overall branding.

I would advocate HQAC should have a limited period with a team of 5 or so, working through this over a 3 to 5 year period to get it all squared away.
Then revert back to just the 1 badge Officer for general queries.

Rekon we must have the know how in an org of our scale.
