What impact is this going to have on the regular cadet forces? Presumably not much as there’s only 2000 slots a year.
Also interesting to note that the journo on twitter is saying that they plan on increasing the size of the ‘regular cadets’ from 43,000 to 60,000. How does this tie into HQAC’s strategic footprint review?
More school CCF units less stand alone units. Schools have access to IT labs and departments unlike Squadrons etc. Ergo, CCF expands and the school get the money, mergers and close downs continue.
As at 1 April 2018, there were 84,370 cadets in the Community Cadets , made up of 14,100 Sea Cadets, 580 in the Volunteer Cadet Corps, 38,080 Army Cadets and 31,610 Air Cadets.
He has ignored the fact we already do it and it’s his big idea cyber is introduced to Cadet Forces. It will follow the NCSC syllabus and be tri-service most likely.
Not sure what will happen to the current cyber syllabus that was developer in collab with Cosford.
Probably not a lot. Funding for 2000 cadets - which means there are a lot of cadets who won’t access it. Maybe it will be a Gold badge + (platinum??) Style course?
CCF 43K to 60K, are there that many to start with in the CCF? Or like many politicians in the last 25 years, confusing ‘community cadets’ wih CCF as they probably had a CCF in their school. This isn’t a sleight at Conservatives, because as many if not more Socialists and Limp Dems went to private and grammars and still manage not understand that the cadets they see out and about in the constituencies are 99% more likely to be community rather than CCF.
Let’s be honest to get to those numbers there needs to be a lot more delivery of cherries at the coalface.
I struggle in a peacetime world why you would want a cadet force that is this large when national finances can’t really maintain armed forces at the level they need to be and schools are under funded such that schools are struggling to employ the right people.
Rather than fannying around with school based cadets, put the money for CEP directly into education so that all the kids can benefit and not the odd few who need an after school club until mum and dad can get to pick them up.
firstly the state of “peace” should have no effect on the funding for the Cadets Forces - “at war” or during “peace time” the MOD sponsored Cadets are independent.
thus your indication that because it is peacetime there shouldn’t be funding is not valid
secondly
there are social and knock on economic benefits by investing in the youth of today as they become the adults of tomorrow
they are more likely to reach their potential, or realise what their potential is
if they are more likely to stay in school, they are more likely to do well at school, and thus in work
aid persons overcome personal/social disadvantages
offers a better understanding of the Armed Forces within and for the local communities
numerous soft skills helping individuals both in work and socially recognised by parents, schools and employees
has a significant improvement on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Armed Forces having former Cadets within their ranks - serving at least 6+ years and 4x more likely to be an Officer or SNCO
