CS Recruitment

I’m hearing rumblings that CS numbers are planned to rebound to at least pre covid-19 levels.

Here’s hoping they replace them broadly so the poor CS cohort can get the support they need. It’s not like they already had a fraction of the number supporting the ACF…

The ACF seem to be heavily supported by non-CS RFCA staff, I think? OR are the RFCA staff also CS?

No, they are aiming to REDUCE CS numbers to pre-covid levels, a reduction in numbers, not an increase. Its CS wide, my department is looking around 2000 staff.

I’ll believe it when I see it…

The CS across the board are being reviewed by all Departments. The problem is that Covid saw big increases in certain departments, but not Defence, yet the cuts are to come from all departments.

Even if number are to rebound, they won’t happen overnight, it will take months/years. And what about the increase to CS salaries, how is the Government going to find the cash!! Increase taxes!!

But the big thing that people totally forget about, or don’t even realise, is the recruitment process. A WExO, who is a CS HEO, is interviewed against a number of 9 CS competences, none of which ask about RAFAC knowledge, working with volunteers and military or suitability to work within RAFAC. You could get someone from a completely different department.

You could get someone with no understanding of the military, but knows how to answer the questions and can demonstrate the competencies, whereas an existing CFAV/CS could blow their interview. Guess who gets it!!

Then you have the work up to knowing the job, that could take months, during which time everyone get annoyed at slowness of outputs and the successful decided to pull the handle as they’ve had enough.

And the process starts all over again.
