If an ex/ current cadet turns up with an Asda bag full of uniform I won’t be touching it thanks

That’s fine, that’s your decision - I will, I stick our Sqn’s returned stuff in the big washer (and depending on the cadet/staff member concerned, sometimes with a litre of sheep dip…) and then out it goes again. What won’t be happening however is you nicking our allocation of new clothing because you won’t touch the old stuff.

Any ideas on how long before we could possibly think about letting a staff member, if they so wish to visit their damp moldy Sqn to check on it? I’ve asked the OC and I’ve been told that there is no date as of yet. I asked if anyone has been the Sqn and was told no. I’m thinking if it’s as bad as I think it’s going to be that if the other Sqn that’s closest to us is in decent shape that we will just be shut down and shipped off :neutral_face:

I’ve been told we won’t be allowed to visit a Squadron until it has been inspected by RFCA and a member of Permanent Staff.

Yeah RFCA inspection before being allowed back in, hopefully they’ll be able to be organised in advance of the confirmed return date.

Of course, knowing this organisation, that won’t happen and there will be great disparity between when units actually return.

Heard similar. As for damage, what ever happens, happens, and costs will be sorted at a later date.

I always thought it was a nonsense to say people couldn’t go in. There are so many things that could be done when people have an unprecedented amount of time to kill. One member of staff could have ‘volunteered’ to go in to prevent people getting overly worried about being contaminated.
I would like to know just what they will do in an inspection to say it’s safe? Swab surfaces? Deep clean, which if the ‘deep clean’ they did at our workplace is anything to go by was dressing up like it was an NBC contamination and then doing what they always do, which is a cursory spray and wipe and hoover. However the biggest thing for us will be distancing and if what the arguments are like for schools with no more than 15 in classroom, bearing is mind our ‘classrooms’ are probably half the size of a school classroom and offices are much smaller, returning will be an interesting proposal to put to parents, cadets and staff alike. It would be odd if a parent not willing to let their child go back to school would let them go to the squadron in a much ‘cosier’ and less controllable than a larger school environment.

My gut feeling and opinion is that if there are any mergers or closures that have already been planned as part of the strategic review, which is still on going.The reopening would be the perfect chance to implement some of them.

We are going to be in an interesting position.
WRT cadets there will be those who have not been in long enough to become habituated, those that are getting older and thinking things will take a while to get sorted so leave as they have bigger fish to fry and some who may just have got out of the habit, the latter is a bit like many who take “study leave” and either come back half-hearted or not at all.
Then there are the staff who will have got into the idea of two nights a week and weekends being a time to do as they please, along with the ball ache of a ‘hobby’ organisation that treats people like they are employees.
For many who have been laid off or working from home for x months, getting back into the work routine will be a bit of a struggle. Even if working from home is their new way of working, it’s a different scenario to doing it to overcome a novel experience like we have had.

Haha, we’ve been maintaining two parade nights a week (just about) and done one or two weekend activities but found that the burden has fallen on an even smaller range of people than normal to run them. Plus the additional admin required to do everything online which all seems to have fallen on me.

I’m getting increasingly fed up with it to be honest.

So don’t do so much. Do enough to maintain interest and keep in touch. It’s probably more important to use it as an opportunity to give staff (including yourself) a rest from the usual levels of commitment rather than strive to maintain the same level during a time when many people will have increased pressures elsewhere.

Yeah that’s a fair point. I’ve already scaled back what we’re doing in June and may reduce further in July as I can’t imagine we’ll be back before then.

We are not back before September 1st at the earliest…
