Yes but it would be nice to get cadets involved. They don’t need paying either which fits with the whole cost saving thing!
Probably not long…
Well with 32 DL’s and the DL you could come up with 100+ Cadets from all the Cadet Forces who all live in London. No cost for accommodation or travel etc.
No need to bring Cadets down from Northumberland to make a contingent.
This is probably the biggest reason you can’t have a Cadet Marching Contingent.
Controversial - but honest - opinion. I genuinely don’t care about the Coronation. I’m not planning to go to London, watch it on the television, go to a street party or go flag waving.
I’m not planning on doing any cadet events. Or “volunteering” them for any of the “Big help out” - they do quite enough of that all ready.
I might go to the beach with my family though. If so, we’ll do a 2 minute beach clean - because it’s what we always do; not because of the King getting a fancy hat for the day.
I mentioned the above to a colleague in Friday - I got evils and suggested a should give up my uniform role and not fit to be in RAFAC. A bit extreme I thought - but welcome your opinions!!!
I’m looking forward to it because I love a bit of ceremony and am an unashamed monarchist. But I fully understand why other people couldn’t give two hoots about the whole thing. I’d never judge someone for not watching it, or not getting into the spirit of it at all.
You are not alone:
29% of those surveyed don’t care.
You Gov is self-selecting as you have to sign up.
I am utterly indifferent to it - I’m not hostile to it, I just have no more interest in it than I do in the Eurovision song contest, or in EastEnders.
The kids want to do a bit of camping - weather should be ok.
I know a few holding street parties and at least one who is camping out.
Personally if I was going to be working it I would watch on the TV, probably the TV in the pub.
I’m not remotely bothered by the bit in the abbey, but I like a parade, so…
Otherwise, yeah, not so much.
Starting to hear rumours at work that the Coronation Medal will be a smaller issue in keeping with previous Coronation medals. Not sure that the sources are particularly firm but it’s certainly the duty rumour.
I’m looking forward to watching it on TV with friends & family but I don’t have any intention for holding a coronation party.
It’s a bit like the queens funeral where we watched the entire ceremony & didn’t really do much else with the bank holiday.
That’s the following week & also good fun to watch!
Been the case at my place.
Absolutely no sources however.
Cynic mode on
Perhaps cutting out any paramedics after they all went on strike…
Cynic mode off
Some media reports this morning say that the king is unhappy that the government are restricting any issue on cost grounds.
It’s interesting because all the internal rumours are saying it’s the King that wants to lower costs. So is this a planned leak to shift blame to the Government or to force their hands?
The news report is also conflicting as the quotes attributed to the King are that he is furious that not every member of the armed forces involved in the event will get one (in keeping with previous coronations) whereas the government arguments that they are quoting are around whether or not every member of the armed forces will get one, those are very different things.
One such article. Although I take the Mail with a pinch of salt…
Is there anyone else who finds the idea of a coronation medal just massively vainglorious?
Medals outside of campaign or gallantry aren’t my thing, which perhaps helps frame this - though I can see some merit in C3 giving a medal/decoration/cheese sandwich to those who served Queen Elizabeth II to say thank you for serving her long, and hugely successful reign - but one to celebrate his own coronation?
It’s all a bit self-congratulatory to me…
Just like HM The Queen’s funeral, we will have the procession on, and have a small tea party/buffet in the lounge through the day.
So the kids can watch the important parts. It allowed my eldest daughter to ask some questions about the whole event.
