Coronation of King Charles III

Well, there’s going to be some very annoyed DIs given only the RN got it televised!

That’s a shame. Would have liked to see all parts doing that one after another from a similar angle that the BBC caught the RN one. Would have looked very impressive

They all had to perform the trick to get through the gate

Reportedly it will be in the next drill manual update but will it be called a ‘doing a Vern’ after GSM Vernon Stokes, not that many will call him Vern to his face.

A fresh faced 26 year old Lance Sergeant Vern Stokes on the Platoon Sergeants Battle Course at Brecon back in ‘98. He was one of the lads they followed on the TV series Battle Stripes, well worth a watch on YouTube. If only he knew then that he would be coordinating both the Queen’s funeral and Charles’ coronation 25 years later as GSM London.

Need to ask our cadet what it was like.
Jealous…

This is the first ‘high quality’ photo I’ve seen of the police walking the crowd down the Mall with the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and Air Cadet right at the front! All the photos I’ve see till now have been bad thumbnail quality!

A former cadet at 2379 (Dawley) Sqn
His brother, from what I can gather, came along to the sqn but didn’t actually join.
Ironic - ATC cadet joins Army and does well. Brother doesn’t join ATC but joins RAF and does well too, SWO at Cosford and now S/L.

Im not sure about the army cadets but RM and Sea cadets are issued with No1s to all cadets but we only wear them under special circumstances. The FS is from my sqn, shes not a Lord Lt Cadet but was the station commander’s cadet for RAF Northolt.

Station Commanders Cadets wearing No1 SD has been written out of ACP 1358, it used to be the case but the only Station Commanders Cadet that is eligible is that of the Station Commander RAF College Cranwell.

When it was updated it reduced the amount of cadets that would be eligible to wear them to reduce costs and to be fair it doesnt detract from the role them not wearing 1s.

It’s a bit ridiculous though as surely a Station Commanders Cadet is likely to have easier access than anyone else to a set of No1 and I’m sure that the Staish’s may well want it even if it’s not in regs.

The last one that I had to get kitted out was more effort than its worth and it doesn’t detract at all from the role that the cadet undertakes at any of the engagements. Both my current stations Commanders cadet and the statuon Commander couldn’t care less if he wears No1 SD or not.

ACP 1358 also states that No1 SD uniform may also be worn by cadets under permission from wing level. Therefore if the cadet has been chosen then they should be able to wear No1s anyway.

Its now Region level for all, para 202 part a point 5.

Was only Wg Cdr CCF, but thats not a thing anymore

Only Wg Cdr that can authorise is it Wg Cdr TG for the JL graduation only.

on a slight different matter/query has anyone heard anything more on if the RAFAC Cadets involved in the coronation are receiving the Coronation Medal. Over the last few months seen various individuals/groups on Facebook who were involved in one way or another with golden orb/Sceptre being presented theirs but have heard nothing about the cadets. I have seen comments on social media (although obviously unverified) that some ACF cadets who were involved are being presented theirs in March/Apr.

I would expect them to turn up over the next few months. The MOD have allowed the manufacturer to begin releasing replacement medals and that wasn’t going to be allowed until the MOD had its full order.
