Content of Junior Leaders course

Hi all,

I’m trying to find out a bit more about the Junior Leaders course syllabus, and the specific topics that are covered.

For example, the CLC courses at Frimley Park and Nesscliffe include:
a. Practical skills. There will be revision and instruction in the following skills:

(1) Section and Platoon Battle Drills
(2) Map and Compass (cadets are expected to be competent in this area)
(3) Skill at Arms (L98 A2 Cadet GP Rifle)
(4) Patrolling and Ambush Drills
(5) Fieldcraft and administration in the field
I’m trying to find something similar for Junior Leaders, but there’s nothing in the application paperwork.

All help and advice is appreciated, many thanks.

Google. Three seconds.

Also ACTO 88 which is entitled “AIR CADET JUNIOR LEADERS’ COURSE”

Now hit the lock button folks!

Thanks for your quick replies.

I had found all the resources you recommended, but they all contain largely the same content.

I’m looking for something a bit more specific, as given in the example I posted for the cadet leadership courses, where the actual topics on the syllabus are given in a bit more detail.

I’m specifically interested in the military skills and tactics element of the course.

Apologies for my vague question in the OP.

Vague questions equals vague replies. What’s your motive people are asking…

I’ve never had the chance to attend a Junior Leaders course, and I’ve not had much exposure to fieldcraft in general, so I was wondering what topics are covered as part of the military skills and tactics syllabus on the course.

For example, CLC includes Section and Platoon Battle Drills and Patrolling and Ambush Drills. I imagine that JL goes even further than this.

Not a huge amount. Section Battle Drills, Flight Attacks Patrolling and Ambushes are all covered on the course and there’s not a lot more really. Because the point of the course is not to train infantry soldiers, but to use those things as a vehicle to develop leadership same as with ACLC, so you don’t really need more than those. The only thing I can think of off hand in addition is that there is a small element of OIBUA.

OIBUA? would love to see either the B-Tac or Urban Ops Inst Quals of those instructors (as required now by the safe system of training rules…

The new ACF FC manual includes TIBUA.

Wouldn’t that apply to ‘Modern Urban Combat’ as is, rather than FIBUA/OBUA/FIBUA/OBUA/FIBUA etc, as was?

Anywho…

In what may prove to me a vain attempt to hijack this thread I have some actual useful stuff on the course.

The deadline for applications has been extended until Friday the 23rd of August for JL15.

The relevant documents for anyone who wished to apply are here:https://sharepoint.bader.mod.uk/atf/Site%20Document%20Library/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fatf%2FSite%20Document%20Library%2FJunior%20Leaders%20-%20JL%2015&FolderCTID=&View={9713E02C-BAF6-4F2E-ADCA-09BE9330A049}

This is probably not a lot of use for any cadets out there who wish to apply. So if you are a cadet and you meet the following prerequisites, please ask your CO for the forms.

d.	Be physically fit and sufficiently robust to complete this demanding course.

e.	Have completed the ACP 16 Syllabus of Training

f.	Have successfully completed a Wg SNCO Course.

g.	Current L98A2 Qualified.
 1. Preferable, but not essential criteria:

No agenda to this, just curious:

How many girls have applied for/attended Junior Leaders and how many have passed it?

I couldn’t give you accurate figures dating back to JL1 because i don’t know. But every year has had female graduates with the exception of JL14. When no girls took part. Only one girl attended selection but she had an injury which precluded her continuing. This was a real shame and was the reason for this year’s article in Air Cadet. Speaking from my personal experience, roughly 5-10% of my course’s graduates were female.
