Compliance with RAF Branding Guidelines - IBN 4 (2025)

It’s almost like IBNs are a really bad vehicle for policy…

Someone whos nifty with Java could create a platform based on a database of authorised images to create the correct branded stuff based on entering a Sqn code.

So if you have an authorised badge that pops up otherwise ATC/CCF badge is used.

But thats big sky thinking

Ahhh but . . .

Regional and Wing banners do not need to include the RAFAC logo as this sits outside of their intended function.

Those aren’t banners, though. I assumed they were referring to ensigns, often called banners, which normally contain that units heraldic badge without the RAFAC logo.

The Comdt isn’t in compliance with that either!

My old sqn, where I was trying to get compliant merch, just got a bunch of merch that isn’t in compliance with the brand guidelines

and I’m not proud but I giggled a little at this

They’re called banners, square in shape. Ensign goes up a flag pole.

Otherwise, you’re correct in that logos aren’t required on the ceremonial banners.

But the policy has always been clear that only authorised badges are permitted to be on banners, so hopefully not too much confusion here.

I’d argue that’s close enough, surely? The spacing is slightly tight, but otherwise fine? I don’t think the order matters?

(Or am I missing something?)

Well yes, it’s the spacing that looks to be too close to me.

I also took it mean the banners that are escorted by a banner party (equivalent to squadron standards: not the ensign).

This must be fine right? I think that’s what the 3A Dress Regs kinda say? (They’ve always been a mess)

The 3A example in 1358 shows a made-up logo :joy: Unless the D&C camp logo is classed as an ‘authorised logo’ and if so, it would be nice to know what the authorisation process is?

If you read the regs, they don’t make any sense, and don’t match the pics

Classic.

I think a standard is what you have if it’s basically a banner that is held in slightly higher esteem and has been “blessed” or whatever other process of making a fuss of a banner may be available.

Don’t quote me. Would be interested to learn if I have that wrong.

Standard or colour has been gifted/approved by the monarch

Nope

Sqn or Formation insignia can be added to the sleeve or right breast but a RAFAC Logo is to be included on the left breast

Awesome, so the opposite of what everyone has been doing for the past 15+ years

Yes! that was the bit that made absolutely no sense, and should have been killed with fire! It also doesn’t match the example picture, which put the logo on the arm, like we always do.

@AlexCorbin Can we PLEASE get those stupid rules rewritten?
