Commitment (parade nights) for staff

Just wondering what people’s views are with regards to the commitment in relation to parade nights?

As I CI, I’m there most evenings, unless I am on holiday.

Other CIs attend less, four reasons I am not aware of (and that is perfectly fine btw, we are volunteers and everyone has their own life!).

However, some of these CIs are looking to move into uniform in the near future.

So, my question is, is there any minimum requirement for uniformed volunteers to attend a certain number of parade nights per month? I also assume that if there is a value, that this value does not transfer to CIs?

ACP 20 PI 202 and 302 detail that ATC SNCO/WO and Officers should attend no fewer than 12 hours per calendar month for activities relating to their primary role.

If that CFAV is primary on a unit and not a Wing post then it would make sense to me that is time spent on a parade night. The average night being 3 hours you would expect 4 nights a month should cover the minimum.

Thanks

Interesting, so, 2 nights per week, at 2 hours each (even though they will be there before and after the night starts) means that the commitment is only 25% a month?

I would be concerned if cadet was only attending that amount of time!

But again , I’m aware that everyone has commitments in life

I would rather have someone for 3 or 4 quality nights a month where they are productive than lots of nights they turn up and drink tea.

I guess the bigger issue is around staff numbers on the unit as well, some staff will be doing 12 hours a week on units in uniform plus numerous hours behind the scenes to keep the doors open while others on units with lots of staff will have a small special project they turn up and run for a short period a week.

Oh yeah, I very much agree with the idea that it is about productivity over hours (not that I drink tea!).

Some of our CIs, for example, rock up and sit in the office… Which is fine if they were doing anything in the office, but they are not!! #rant!

Sometimes I rock up and sit in the office as other staff already have lessons planned, but I’m needed to be there to keep the ratios in check.

Normally it’s unplanned. I get a message at 1600hrs asking if I can show up, and am happy to if I’m free. It’s that or the night gets cancelled.

In in a mind set of do what you can, learn to say no and dont over commit.

^ so much this.

Much rather have someone who does a few things and does everything they say they will do, over someone who promises lots but never delivers.
