I am relatively new to cadets and I got MTP recently and I wanted to know if a combat smock is required to be worn when you wear your MTP uniform
I spend a lot of time in MTP and whilst there are some occasions where the MTP shirt without the smock is appropriate (indoor activity or outdoors in the warmer months), the smock is an essential piece of kit. I make sure it’s detailed on my climatic injuries briefings as It’s designed to cope with the worst of weather and provides a hood (don’t let anyone tell you the hood can’t be used - it’s a cadet myth), and plenty of useful pockets.
Smocks can be picked up very cheaply at surplus stores.

You need to have one in case you need to wear it, but you don’t need to wear it all the time.
