Civilian Committee setup

Hi All,

I have been recently approached by the squadron commander to join a new Civilian committee he is trying to get going, currently there is no committee. Before committing to join, has anyone got any information on what to expect?

Is there any documentation on what the CivCommittee does and where the responsibilities lie with the squadron commander and the CivCommittee?

I would appreciate any info !

If you hold a professional qualification, then be sure that you take care over things like financial responsibilities as any accusations of impropriety, could lead to a regulator investigation.

You want to ask for a copy of ACP 10 and ACP 11. That should give you a good overview. I’d also suggest speaking to the Wing CWC. I’d hope that the Wing Chair would be able to help a lot with this.

Having been a Chairman and gone back into uniform I can honesty say it can be very rewarding but only if the Civilian Committee and Squadron treat each other equally. It is hard for each to function without the other and mutual respect is essential.

Given there is no committee there is a great opportunity to get things right.

My committee are very supportive and meet for about 1.5 hours every 6 to 8 weeks. For me this is ideal and we have a fantastic relationship.

The ACPs mentioned will give you an idea but I would also ask the OC what he needs and expects.

Absolutely true. I have had both ends of the spectrum in terms of committees and the one where we both respected each others function was excellent. The squadron wanted for nothing and the rigour of being challenged on budgets etc drove some really good consideration of whether we actually needed certain things, quite rightly.

thank you all for the helpful advice. Still filling in another set of forms for the application.
