CI Formal Interview

Good evening,

I recently turned 20 and decided to continue my ATC journey as a civilian instructor with the aim of going RAFVR(T) on completion of my degree in 2017. However, I must get past the first hurdle of my formal CI interview. I know the basic health and safety principles, child protection guidelines and structure of the ATC/RAF. Is there anything else I should know?

Thank you.

Don’t worry too much. Usually in a CI interview the sector commander (if that’s who does yours) is just looking for a positive attitude and an understanding of what the organisation is about.

For an ex-cadet, it may be more focused on where you want to go within the organisation, and what you’d like to develop during your time as a CI.

I’m a CI and have recently completed a degree. I enjoyed the additional flexibility it gives over a VRT or SNCO role, both with parade nights and external courses. My advice to you would be to get stuck in and do as many courses as you can. You have more time during uni than at any other time until retirement (unless you’re at Oxbridge or doing medicine or a particularly heavy engineering course) so you might as well try a bit of everything. At worst, you’ll meet new people and spend a few evenings in the bar. At best, you’ll benefit loads of cadets and have a great time doing so.

I’m currently doing a nursing degree and it is time consuming, but I seem to juggle things quite well so far (touch wood)! I appreciate your advice, thank you.
