China & Russia

That’s alright then, let them die.

And when Russia isnt finished they’ll come for the rest anyway, it will end up being our problem if we like it or not.

As long as it’s not the local council they’re applying to then I’m sure they’ll be fine doing this!

Sorry, a little brevity felt overdue.

I understand the reluctance to directly intervene with Russia in Ukraine. As some have previously said, NATO troops in Ukraine would be like lighting a match in a petrol station, it’s asking for an ‘accident’ and all it takes is one for the a spiral of uncontrolled events.

Although, they were talking on the radio today about Putin invading Ukraine as a way of stopping NATO on his borders, however by invading he’s done quite the opposite because now all of NATO is behind Ukraine. I feel that Putin is really testing the waters with this and how we act now sets a precedent going forward. As some said today - this is a new era for security in Europe.

Let’s live in the world of reality.

a) It’s really what’s happening in Ukraine.
b) If Russia comes for the rest they know NATO will have no choice but to get involved.

There is a real world and WW3 needs to be avoided, we can’t pretend that diving in and “saving Ukraine” is a good idea. Putin is already committed.

There’s a lot of ‘what ifs’ here and we don’t know the answers and outcomes.

You could ask sky did Ukraine drag their heels in joining NATO. If they had joined, would Russia have done this earlier :man_shrugging:t2:

If they had joined, NATO would jump on Article 5 by now and we would probably have boots on the way :man_shrugging:t2:

The UN Security Council voted on a resolution to condemn Russia’s invasion.

China abstaining and not voting no has to be seen as a positive?

Yes or at the very least interesting - think Russia was expecting them to add support but from China’s point of view why stick your neck out when it diverts military assets to Europe & away from the pacific.

China acts in china’s interest & tend to watch before acting.

India gets 70% or so of its agricultural fertiliser from Russia hence why it doesn’t want to annoy. Not sure on UAE.

So an interesting Twitter thread from a Latvian MEP. In short it seems Putins done a large scale Leroy Jenkins and gone in with no tactical plan & expectations that everything would be over in four or so days. The Russians have rockets for 3-4 days and no easy way to replace them.

They’re already operating at the very long end of a logs tail, there’s been very public footage of tanks and APCs running out of fuel on highways.

Yep, looking pretty unorganised currently. But this could just mean they’ll use more missiles instead. They’ve been firing in from the Black sea.

Sadly it looks like that apartment block that was hit in the early hours of this morning was actually hit by a Ukrainian missile that went wrong.

So when they run out of weapons do Ukraine make a dash for Moscow?

Let’s hope that’s true and it does result in negotiations, rather than Putin using whatever other weapons are available in desperation inc chemical and biological.
