Some of my cadets have expressed an interest in two officially charity run events but neither for our official charities, am I right in thinking we would need extra insurance as ATC insurance would not cover it? One event is a sponsored run and the other is the local Boxing Day dip
Would the Charity not already have insurance for their organised event?
Yes for both, just checking that there is nothing further we need to do
Basic swim test for all cadets going in or near water.
Are the cadets attending as people or cadets?
From the OP as cadets.
Which if nothing else prompts the question - Boxing Day are staff going to be available and are the cadets?
Seeing as cadets have expressed an interest and the staff member OP is looking at the insurance question I’m guessing that’s a yes. Do you ever engage your brain before posting?
In some towns it’s something that everyone goes to every year.
That’s a bit harsh and unnecessary
Some people just need to make sure rather than assuming
In fairness… I was thinking the same!
Who in their right mind would want to spend boxing day running a cadet event?
I consider myself ‘dedicated to the cause’ but even then there is a limit and we have a hard shut down over Christmas for 2 weeks. That’s my rule for being open the rest of the year.
It sounds a lot more interesting than my regular boxing day.
In fact, I’d work Xmas too.
Like @Paracetamol I stand down over the Christmas period, normally from the week before to the first week of the new year allow for school productions (seems to be a big thing locally), staff work do’s and cadets getting back into school, during which nothing cadet related is done or organised.
If we had an event in the town like this and cadets wanted to be involved, I wouldn’t stop them, but as a group of mates not as a group of cadets.
If they just want to go off and do it, they need nothing from you and you have no power to stop them even if you wanted to. It isn’t like they are going to go for a run or swim in their uniform.
