Changes to messing bills for anyone not receiving VA

I see there has been an update to messing promulgated that informs those non-uniformed and Gliding staff that use to be classed as feeders ie no need to pay for messing are now included with everyone and having to pay going forward.

Where did you see this please?

Going to need a source for that.

Anyone not in receipt of VA should not be paying a penny for food or accommodation!

Maybe a link to the document on Sharepoint rather than a full copy paste!

Agreed,

I’ve seen the same come through from my Wings Military Skills Channel…

Probably search Food and Accomodation Policy 2026-27

I’m out and about atm otherwise I would

Does that go for SIs then?

FOOD AND ACCOMMODATION CHARGES FOR RAFAC VOLUNTEERS AND CADETS 2026/27

It’s unclear if I’m honest

As whilst it says the DMA is to be paid it then says in the notes about those being fed at crown expense.

Ah. Good. Take something clear and unambiguous and make it confusing and unclear. Good work team.

It’s unacceptable to expect unpaid staff to pay accommodation, messing and food charges. I always made sure that any unpaid staff did not incur any charges even if I had to pay for them myself. When I got my team together for a Regional Meeting, I paid the lunch bill and the drinks. It wasn’t exactly costing a fortune but it was the principle that counted for me.

Which ever idiot dreamed up this regulation needs sending somewhere where the sun don’t shine.

End of rant!!!

If this is the policy and not a faux pas, one hopes the VA lot all chip in to cover CI Messing…I certainly would

I’ve always been charged mess fees (ie accommodation) as a CI, even when the food was free.

I’ve seen some lengthy rows between CFAV officers and mess staff about that in the past.

You might have been charged extra messing, but not the actual accommodation fee.

All I know is there was a bill based on a nightly rate, and it was the same as the SNCOs paid. Both on a blues camp and courses when we were in Sgts.

The post and link on teams suggest this is indeed now current policy. All CFAV will pay their way WRT messing charges like PAYD.

Crazy.

If it were me I’d be adding those charges onto my 1771 going forward…

Are there enough willing and able uniformed CFAV’s to fill a potential void by no CI’s then? I get paying for parts of your hobby but things like camps, taking a week off work (paid or unpaid) then paying for messing whilst colleagues are being paid is ridiculous!

once again another change in policy which is a step change without any justification, explanation or indeed hint to the reader why there the change is necessary:

here is the clarification
within it, is a major change
i have not explained it

thx bye

There’s not even been an announcement. No IBN or email. Just an update to a slightly obscure document no one reads.

This is what you are meant to do & what I was advised as a CI on the occasions that I was charged.

The amount wasn’t worth the hassle & paperwork.
