Change of command ...hand-over checklist

So - am about to hand over command of the Sqn to my Adj as a WSO post beckons…

Does anyone have such a thing as a “hand-over checklist”?

If not, any words of advice from those who have been through this process would be gratefully received!

Cheers

In your case it should be straight forward as Gunner suggests.

The last time I took over a sqn I met with the outgoing OC twice to get the lowdown on the sqn, which although I knew it, I didn’t know the personalities and a second time to look at in more detail what their typical training programme and who the local liaison people were wrt Legion and RAFA. I also met with the OC and CWC execs to cover off CWC issues and the staff generally, but apart from one, we all knew each other.
On handing over confidential staff files, weapons and ammo check (WSO came down and did again a couple of weeks later), keys and key register check, property book, set of accounts YTD, codes for gate locks. There wasn’t a list as such.
I would say that in the modern era getting the OC account on Bader switched quickly is a must.

If you don’t tell your replacement anything at all they’ll breeze their ILM Level 3!

I started to make note of the things I was doing when I took over the DF. I didn’t get very far, or rather, I stopped updating the list because there was so much but here’s some things…

Meet with Staff
Meet with NCOs
Meet with Cadets
Meet with CWC

Squadron Commander’s Course at ATF RAF Cranwell

Unit Transfer Paperwork
Transfer of Own Record on Bader
Reallocation of Bader Accounts
Ensure Personnel Information on Bader Up to Date
Wing Location Statement up to date

Read ACP 5
H&S Checklist IAW ACP5

Weapons Paperwork up to date
Ammunition Paperwork up to date
Unit Security key holders (and CTC if required)

Create Unit Standing Orders
Create Unit Objectives/Aims
Look at Training Programme/Upcoming Events

Assign Staff Roles
Assign Cadet NCO Roles

Just in discussions about taking my first command, thanks for this list it’s brilliant!

In addition does Anyone have advice,as it is my first time there’s going to be a transition period. Current OC is off to Take charge of another unit.

Make it happen as quickly as possible, don’t drag out the handover.

Don’t be afraid to change things, but dont change things for the sake of it.

Thanks!
Its a 40 minute drive each way, any ideas on that, other than using camp pay to build an audio book collection?!

Welcome to my world! (Except I took command in the sticks, but live in the city!)

Buy a fast car, makes the journey go quicker

My car won’t allow me to drove fast but thanks for the welcome!
