Hello, I recently visited my local Armed Forces Careers Office, to register my interest in becoming a pilot in the navy and was told I could go on the annual CCF (Navy) camp at BRNC Dartmouth (The Navy’s version of Cranwell). If I go should I wear my uniform? And when forming up should I do RAF drill or RN drill (Foot stamping or no foot stamping?)?
Thanks,

This is a very specific question for an unusual circumstance. If the answer isn’t contained in the joining instructions (which you should be sent before attending) then you should ask the person who sent you the JIs for clarification.
Yeah thanks, but I don’t think this will be in the JIs because I’ll be pretty much the only air cadet going and they will be aimed at CCF (Navy) cadets. I’ll ask them though.
I know the camp you are talking about and have work/run it 2.5 times. I know it has changed slightly since I was there but it doesn’t change the answers to your questions.
I can tell you that you will not be the only Light Blue there, look it as a CCF camp not a CCF(RN) camp. It is a total mix. We even had some ATC there from local units to fill the no shows. You will get the information in the JI but I would be highly surprised if you weren’t wearing uniform.
As for the Drill… its a bit grey, the CCF often do Army Drill and in principle its RAF drill with the orders being given in an odd way. I would say go with the flow on this one.
Thanks a lot! That’s great to know, I’m looking forward to it a lot more now
I’ve been attended this camp a few times as staff. It’s fairly laid back as it’s now an activity camp rather than the old taster camp, but you will need rig for drill sessions during period 1 and for the final parade/inspection by a visiting Flag Officer on the Saturday. You’ll also need kit for whichever activity you end up doing and something smart for the mess dinner on Saturday night. All of this should be explained I the JIs.
Drill is, as has been said, fairly purple but with a dark blue flavour; with Chief Gunners instructing and turning 150-200 cadets from all over the country - and every cadet forces cap badge - into a coherent whole in a ludicrously short period of time.
Just don’t ask the Matelot mess staff for Starters…
