What’s CCAT?
Cadet Centre for Adventurous Training - http://www.armycadetadventure.co.uk/ - it’s an ACF sponsored and administered organisation for cadet & staff development. A bit like our NACATCs - or, IMHO, what they should be like. The courses as run more frequently, covering more levels, and are sometimes split over weekends (rather than weeks).
They also run and administer a number of high profile expeditions throughout the year which are all quite well publicised and widely circulated.
ATC staff (and sometimes cadets) are permitted to attended on a backfill/top up basis… it doesn’t stop us accounting for around 20-30% of personnel though!!!
I’ve done a couple of bits with them and thoroughly enjoyed them.
I agree with Batfink - their courses are, in general, excellent. I’ve completed my ML, TCL, BCU Level 1 coach, Winter Mountain Foundation and Winter Climbing Foundation with them and all have been superb - particularly the winter courses.
What impresses me most is the level of delivery staff they pull in. On my BCU L1 course we had no less than 5 different Level 5 coaches - top drawer training, and you learn so much from that level of experience.
Having done my BCU Level 2 training earlier this year with a ‘commercial’ provider (although organised through the ATC) the difference in the quality of training was unbelievable.
Oh, and where else can you get a weeks Winter Climbing, working 1:2 with an MIC ninja, for £50 all in?
Still not seen CCAT’s - but have just seen the NACATC ones. Next years looking like a busy year for me!!!
