Carrying Medals in Hand Luggage?

Does anyone have experience of carrying Full Size Medals in Hand Luggage?? I have carried miniatures before, but not Full Size. This is an UK internal flight with BA….

I can’t see any reason why this would be a problem?

Brooch pin?

Pin is sharp

Yeah that’s my thought and long as it’s a 6 rack

Surely the pin is no worse than than a pen or pencil?

Knitting needles are permitted on BA, wrap up the medals in some knitting wool!

Probably quite rare these days, you can ask for the item to be taken by the “hand of the captain” for security purposes.

Without going into graphic detail, you can do someone fatal damage (very quickly) with a metal-based pen, but they are allowed!

Could you manage, for this occasion, with alternative fixings such as a couple of larger safety pins?

Possibly, but want to look my best as I’m a coffin bearer  I’m sure it will be alright…

Is it worth pinging BA an email and explaining your situation? I’d hope they’d be forthcoming

I doubt that it would be permitted as the pin could be used as a weapon. I went to USA some years ago. Mine went in the hold baggage pinned to my uniform.

So no issues whatsoever to Scotland and back in my hand luggage going up and attached to my uniform (in a suit carrier) coming back again as hand luggage

was that because you were open and honest at the gate and pointed it out and they gave you approval?

or you tried your luck and was not stopped?

I checked with a friend of mine who travels a lot with a 10 rack and works in airline security he said it’s never an issue, wrap them and pack them, but dont try and hide them. Scanned both ways and not stopped
