That was 6 years ago…and for 3 cadets. What since?
I’m pretty certain they were pulled because of the comments. Lots and lots of negativity towards CV, mainly from ex-cadets and staff complaining of how she ‘actively blanked’ them at RIAT and other events once the cameras were turned off. Fair to say she upset a lot of people.
I hadn’t heard of the F35 trip - definitely an amazing and memorable experience for the 3 cadets, the accompanying staff, their families and no doubt the envy of their friends… and turning up for photo calls….
The problem is expectation and disappointment.
Because of her media presence, her STEM background and extrovert nature… rightly or wrongly, my expectation was that we’d be seeing her all over the media, highlighting the amazing work carried out by volunteers, creating opportunities for young people up and down the country… you know, like being an ambassador…
Ms Vorderman was in many ways the ideal candidate - on paper…. And there lies the problem…
Doubts in my mind as to whether it was a totally voluntary role - or was she given a stipend… so that RAFAC could use her likeness / brand…?
The next quandary is to imagine another possible “ideal” ambassador.,
Tom Fletcher I think could still be good, he’s an ex-cadet
Parents would know him from McFly. Kids may know him from his books. He’s still got a presence without too much politics.
Though he’d need to rename the band from McFly to McSim if he joined us
Exactly this.
the CAC was transferred during Covid, and with no summer scheduled lined up there was little excuse to parade CV out in front of the cameras as there were no events and no cameras to do so.
And that was in 2020, 12 months later summer 2021 i do not feel we were back “up to speed” as camps didn’t go ahead and so she slipped away under TK and has been allowed to do so since.
I think it is a case of mismanagement under a change of CAC - I am not sure if there is an Ambassador liaison officer or if Aunty Dawn just completed that role herself which TK didn’t pick up, but I do feel CV’s change in attitude and engagement towards the RAFAC matches the change in CAC at that time…
