Hiya,
I dont know if any other cadets with the MOI qualification has this issue but from my experience one of the main things holding back myself and the other NCO’s on my sqn with MOI is the fact we cant acess the premade training resources for the subjects we are allowed to teach.
Surely those with MOI qualifications should have acess to sharepoint? - Before you answer please read what im about to say.
Now i completely understand that there may be stuff on sharepoint that cadets shouldnt have acess to and I completely understand it. However how do HQAC expect cadets with MOI to be able to teach a lesson after only seeing the presentation they’re teaching maybe 5 minutes before they do so…
Now i dont think its unreasonable to ask why dont cadets with MOI have acess to all of the resources or even just give us acess to the resouces based on our qualifications. What I mean by this is maybe a feature on cadet portal that once you obtain the MOI qualification it then gives you access to classification lessons that are lower than your current level, and same with the rest of the PTS quals that that particular cadet is qualified to teach.
Thoughts?

just ask your squadron staff to give you access to the squadron SharePoint account and then you can access everything of a share point from there. I know a lot of squadrons do this for staff cadets although I’m not sure about under 18 cadets.
My OC doesnt like cadets even staff cadets having access to the sharepoint account. And aswell our current sqn account apparently doesnt have acess to sharepoint - like they cant log on to the account and rafac digital arent responding but thats a whole other conversation
Your OC is correct there. But we are also aware this is an issue, it’s been raised many times.
Anyone accessing SharePoint (which is an MOD system) needs both BPSS and to complete the Responsible for Information training.
Over 18 cadets should have BPSS. However they don’t have a Bader account to log in anyway. And they ideally should not be using a CFAV’s account as they are personal to them.
This all got more complicated when we moved parts of the system from role to personal accounts.
The only practical options are:
- Have the training officer download the files and share them locally on the Squadron network
- For non downloadable content have a CFAV log on to access the content, then log off afterwards.
I realise neither is ideal.
Alright thank you.
But surely a solution such as adding an extra part to cadet portal for resouces for MOI cadets would work a lot more efficiently? - idea explained in further detail in the last paragraph of original post
And its not like HQAC are opposed to changing cadet portal as it recently got a UI update

Squadrons can already add documents to Portal, but they are visible to all cadets. It’s a question of if your OC or trg off trusts the non MOI cadets!
I log in each night with my details for cadets to access what they need to access for that night. They don’t know my password for ‘unathorised’ logins.

The solution to this should never involve uncontrolled copies being created on local networks, hard drives, USB storage, or even Sqn SharePoint or Teams sites. That would be very bad information management practice.
As the OP has said, those with a legitimate need to know should have access to the original maintained versions if the training material for the topics and levels they are qualified to instruct.
SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, SMS, and the various portals all have granular permission management: so it should never be necessary to deny someone access to something they do have a need to know in order to prevent them from seeing things they shouldn’t.

Unfortunately we don’t have the ability to set permissions or grant access.
A workround that someone posted on here a while ago was the OneDrive attached to the Squadron generic account running on a local PC, but the Sqn OneDrives were removed when we went to personal accounts. SharePoint has the features but we can’t give cadets access.
I take your point about uncontrolled documents but we have no alternative unless HQ change policy. Luckily training materials aren’t updated all that often!
On our squadron we (the NCOs) get given the training programme for the next two months about a week in advance by our training officer, which gives us time to go and request or produce the material needed to teach the lesson. I agree that it would be so much easier if MOI cadets are allowed access to training materials for subjects they can teach however what we have at our squadron seems to work quite well as we all end up with up to date material well in advance of the lesson and since all of us have an area of ‘expertise’ we tend to sort of learn the lessons as we teach if that makes sense?
