Cadets & Ukraine

Official announcement made through RAFAC

& quite sensible it is too!

Doesn’t it seem odd that the direction is to avoid posting anything on your personal social media? A little outside of HQAC’s jurisdiction isn’t it?

I would link it back to the social media policy and go with ā€œif identifiable as a cadet/CFAVā€ to protect the org*.

*From reputation damage from morons or degradation of the disinterested, apolitical stance.

Personal accounts, I disagree with the statement. However, unit accounts shouldn’t be posting pictures of Ukraine flags as I have seen! Policy is pretty clear as day to me

Very good post. Nothing about not traveling to volunteer though I note, green light! (/s)

The personal account bit also comes from a good place, but I agree it is an overstep.

That was the wording in the note that came from the MOD and the Commandant has re-used it. Doesn’t quite relate to us as much as regular service personnel and the RHQs have been advised to be sensible.

Stand by for an RHQ over egging it in 5…4…3…2…1

I think it is a technical overstep but since all social media accounts are unofficial in a way the general guidance of ā€œif we can easily see who you are & that your linked to RAFAC then don’tā€ is reasonably sound, fair & acceptable.

Same principle as someone in uniform having a road rage incident after a parade night on their way home. ā€œYes it’s personal time - but you were easily identifiable as RAFAC & as such brought the organisation into disreputeā€

all this is making me feel we should have a disclaimer along the lines

ā€œall views, opinions and posts are my own and do not reflect my employer, and/or any other organisations I am linked with through hobbies or volunteeringā€

to distance personal opinion from any connection?

Yes, most people have similar, I do on all my accounts, but if i choose to have a picture of me in my uniform with my daughter in her uniform and promote that I am an Air Cadet Volunteer, it still links me to the organisation…obviously those more legally minded will be able to say whether that ā€˜disclaimer’ has any relevance.

I think the information from HQ is sensible, and it is not unreasonable to follow.

Just draws even more attention to it in my view!

showing that I ā€œlikeā€ and ā€œfollowā€ a page could also be seen as a ā€œlinkā€ to the organisation…

those who wish to make such a connection from a nobody (and I will happily accept in the wider world i am a no body in the grand scheme of things, and even within the organisation I am a lowly CFAV with insignificant rank or authority outside of the 30 Cadets and my team of Staff) and take that as the position of the organisation then chances are i have other material which could be of interest to those who wish to smear the organisation with the label of distrust or disrepute…and we have bigger issues to consider regarding my ā€œcharacterā€ and suitability as a CFAV.

Are they telling me I can’t even share memes?!

Shut down all meme sharing nationally for a period of 3 days?

Yeap. Especially where the sharing of said memes only impacts on a very small percentage of the RAFAC population. And even though other memes shared within the last week have had an impact on a different area, but nobody noticed/cared.

Ah, but lessons were learned from the prior sharing of memes and the impact felt in that area (although not operationally troublesome or an unmitigatable risk) cannot be allowed to affect or not affect others (depending on their proximity to the meme, but regardless of if they were indoors or outdoors).

But did the meme Sharer have a fully authorised RA completed…
