Cadet Forces (and associated) Jobs - Interesting Opportunities

There is a section on your Regional Sharepoint page for vacancies at Regional level, and each of the Wings have their own vacancies section if you were looking for something within your Wing.

LaSER has a region-wide vacancies page, and we often advertise vacancies for CCF and SW region too. The direction ā€œshould beā€ that any role from OC Sqn upwards is advertised across the region.

Not quite cadet forces jobs, but adjacent, I’d say. A very senior role within the Scouts.

Rule of thumb of converting civil service to regular military is to double the C.S. Pay to get an idea of the rough military grade.

So in this case band D @ £30k is roughly equivalent to experienced FLt Lt/newish Sqn Ldr / experienced FS

It’s a really weird situation to be in when I was a mid level Flt Lt I ended up as A/Sqn Ldr working for a C1/SEO and they had to sign off on my acting pay as my ā€˜CO’, I had to get many many coffees in as the pay difference was incredible :flushed:

I think I’d be quite happy doing a job like that. Once again though the pay is what puts me off!

Interesting that this is employed by the ACCT and not RFCA. Can the Air Cadet Charity directly hire staff, instead of going through Civil Service recruitment?

I would have thought it would only be for roles & activities that are not publicly funded.

NATO Defence College are looking for paid interns, for current undergraduate students or recent graduates. Perhaps useful for recent RAFAC leavers?

could some one please remind exactly where i find all wing and regional job posts on sharepoint?

There isn’t one central location, you will need to go to the SharePoint page for that Wing/Region and look for the vacancies page within it.

Direct entry Captains (Flt Lts) are now a thing…?

To be fair, it’s always been a thing for padres and professionally qualified entrants: but this is the first time I’ve seen an advert like this.

Edit to add: We already have direct entrant gp capts in 601 Sqn, too.

I won’t lie, I’d be tempted to go for one of them except I’m not sure where I sit with regards to vetting. I’ve heard that because I was officially volunteering for a British organisation, my time overseas wouldn’t be held against me for SC, but I can’t find any confirmation of that.

Similarly, I’m still experiencing Raynaud’s symptoms, so if the medical standards are the same then I wouldn’t be eligible anyhow.

I didn’t even make that as a Scientist in the COVID labs during the pandemic!

Also direct entry Sgt & Ssgts it seems

I can’t imagine the Army getting their heads around that!

Then again, although not direct entry, soldiers have always had the option of skipping a rank or two by transferring to the RAPTC.

They’d been doing it with the other DCSU (as was) when I was there.

Specialist captains and funky rank slides for the non-commissioned specialists (who were treated as SSgt).

The zig zig career is a new approach from the recent defence review. The idea is you can step more easily between civvy street and uniform and be able to go up the ranks too. These job posts look like the first steps

This seems like a really good idea. And the salaries look sensible enough to actually get decent candidates too!
