Cadet Forces Jobs - Interesting Opportunities

Broadly speaking, that’s the going rate for a supermarket check-out person in our area.

I guess it depends on your circumstances, if you don’t have too many ties in the sense of family commitments and have the quals the pension is a decent bonus. Usually this type of thing (AT instructor) would be freelance/seasonal work and if you like the outdoors definitely better than supermarket work. Not the greatest pay but the overall package could be worse

Minimum wage is 25k these days so that’s pretty dreadful

Depends on the hours worked. £25k is definitely rounded up especially for out that way as you aren’t working a 50 hour week at a supermarket (comparison made earlier)

Sure, and the pay is normally not great.

But they’re asking for a WMCI which takes years to get. It’s arguably the highest qual UK wise for this sort of thing. And there really aren’t many people with WMCI.

Someone with WMCI is a top level SME in the UK when it comes to hiking and climbing in all conditions.

As it’s 37hrs that works out as £15.37 per hr (pre deductions, bottom spinal point of scale)

National minimum wage is £12.21per annum (£23,492 pa)

True, granted it’s not for everyone, I wouldn’t be applying but it could suit certain lifestyles, ex-forces etc where you might have all the quals lined up, mortgage is paid and just want an outdoors job for 3-5 years before retiring. Paid holiday in AT world is very rare too especially freelance.

Having heard this sort of thing being discussed many, many times over the years, it will be factored in that the likely recruit will be ex-forces and pension-earning.

Therefore, it will generally have been justified (at least historically) that they don’t actually need to receive that much money…

It does sound like the job is tailored towards a soon to retire RAF/RM/RAPTC PTI. You see it quite often on adverts for civil service QMs where the essential Q is the QM Cse :joy:

The changes to the pension are really going to bite MOD in the posterior in a few years. People won’t be topping up a pension they will be needing a proper replacement salary

That’s to say nothing of the absurdity that once you’ve earned a pension and retired, returning on FTRS terms then docks your pension, which you’ve earned in full, having completed the required commitment.

I take it this is another job designed for someone on a full pension?

I’m on NRA General Council & this position has come as a surprise. I don’t know if this is linked the demise of the L81 & any possible behind the scenes planning that he NRA might be involved in.

I’ve said this elsewhere.

It’s very nice to see a push for such development, but looking at the TORs, it seems as if there might be big overlaps with existing NRA departments.

For example, how much of “developing” is training? There is already a trg team within the NRA? Maybe DBS aspects to consider if working with youth / school audiences? Qualification(s) for any trg requirements for this post?

Same for media coverage, surely this should be under the existing media umbrella?

A random thought - as CCRS might have changing priorities (cadet tgt rifle being withdrawn, etc), is this something that they could take on to a wider audience? They must already have a range of interests / contacts / qualifications that match a lot of the requirements.
