For bronze weekend first aid, I can only do the Saturday. Is it worth turning up? Will I still get a badge?
Thank you
If it is a 2 day course, and you only do half the course, then no you won’t get the badge.
First aid trainers are limited to groups of 12 trainees, and bronze requires attendance at both days including assesment.
As much as I would sound the virtues of attending any training for the experience even if it doesn’t result in qualification, in this case it could be that you take a spot from someone who could have attended both days and passed.
Yes you will not get a badge for 1 day as it is a 12hour course done over 2 days it also includes assessments to complete the course. As trainer wise it’s not the easiest course to put on as you require
1xtrainer delivering the course
then a seprate assessor per 6x cadets as they drop the ratio from 12 EFA to 6YFA.
Also the assessor is not allowed to have anything to do with the delivery and teaching of the course.
So for the likes of my unit im having to run multiple YFA courses as there is only myself and another person who can do these which means we are capped at only 6 cadets per course currently.
That’s still 12 at a time if you’re organised. How many are you trying to get through?
i have 10 to put through it but have been told it has to be capped at 6 cadets as there is only 2 of us staff so 1 to do the training and the other to do the assessments only. so was told if i where to put over 6 then i require another 3rd person to assess also.
With two trainers/assessors available for the weekend, you each teach six and then assess each others group of six, therefore twelve cadets through the Bronze course in a weekend
^^ this. One SMS, but submit the form twice as two courses and swap trainer and assessor.
Unless person 2 is not a trainer and just an assessor.
Things like that likely need challenging, as you are then delivering for 6 cadets with 2 CFAVs with the CACE this is pushing the cost per cadet up.
Why CACE? It doesn’t meet any of the criteria based on what was said, even with 12 cadets and 2 CFAVs. Not over 72 hours, not over 75 cadets or more than 10 VA days.
I’ve managed to avoid planning anything since it came in… but regardless we are looking at VfM
Yes it doesn’t make sense all especially for something like first aid. I really think they need to change the requirements for first aid training incl silver. this is probably one of the most important courses we teach and could save lives . So not to be able to offer them more and do the further courses is just crazy to me. It also puts alot more pressure on the wing first aid officer especially with likes of the silver . We have a great guy who is our first aid officer but the likes of silver courses is all on him to do this course due to the restricted requirements.
You also mention this needs challenging could you expand on what you mean or who you mean. when it comes to for example the first aid training requirements who is it that has actually set these and has the power to change this system.
that is great idea never even thought of that. So i have 10 cadets and then could both teach 5 each at the same time and assess each others as you mentioned. So think i will definitely do this thanks.
Bingo!
