Bronze Road Marching Requirements

Hi!

In January I have my first bronze qualifying march of 38km on Staurday and 22km on Sunday. I am a bit confused on what I need to do for the bronze badge. Is it two 2x20s or just the one as the JIs do not match up on my knowledge, the squadrons progressive training syllabus sheet and the internet. Have the requirements changed? I have attended the CTP, and all blue training marches, and have achieved my blue. I am 15 years old, just to help clear up any confusion about age requirements to take part. This march is a bronze qualifier and a silver training i think! Thank you!

Sorry I don’t know what your trying to say?

I’ve tagged someone else on the Forum who does Road Marching. They might be able to answer the question for you.

(Waiting for @Mr_OZ to confirm)

IIRC Bronze RM is either 1x 40km or 2x 20km on consecutive days.

As a way of building up to Silver which is 2x 40km, presumably this event is being run so that:

a) you’re used to the idea of walking on consecutive days.

b) the first walk of 38km could easily end up as 40km, by the time you’ve walked the opposite of a racing line around the route… meaning you’ll have done the required distance on the Saturday.

c) if a member of the team has to withdraw on Saturday - provided they walked more than 20km, thy could still turn up and walk on the Sunday to achieve their Bronze RM badge

d) if you complete both walks, you’ll not only have completed the required distance for Bronze, but you will be well prepared for Silver.

Just make sure you keep training between Bronze & Silver…

Best of luck, hope the weather gods are kind to you!

This is a question for me (pretty sure this is my event!).

Bronze requirements are:

  • Hold blue
  • Be at least 13 years old
  • Complete two training marches of a minimum of 20km each (can be consecutive)
  • Complete a qualifying 2x20km march within two months of the training marches.

The training we do is to prepare cadets for road marching events, with the opportunity to earn the badges along the way (badges can also be earned at events). Have a read of the Joining Instructions which are on the Cadet Portal event - it contains all of the information you’re after. It even explains why the distances appear longer than the minimum bronze requirements - there is a shorter bronze route for those just wanting to do 2x20km.

Also, it may be how you’ve phrased your question, but to confirm the training is not this coming weekend (ie 3-4 January), but the weekend after :slightly_smiling_face:

To avoid this becoming a briefing for you on a public forum, please email me or PM me should you have any further questions!
