Booking a range

Having done my SA(SR)07 I understand how to actually run the range.
However, I’d be interested if someone could give me a brief guide on how to actually get to that stage by booking the range and the weapons and ammunition which is required for the shoot.

Thanks.

I’d suggest speaking with your Wing Shooting Officer as (assuming you are talking L98A2) will know how your Parent Station like bookings to work (everyone does it slightly different) along with what ranges are in your locale and how to book them.

Alternatively, drop a hint as to Wing / Region, and someone on here can probably assist!

Exactly as ibbi said. I have two stations that I use and both do things completely differently!

But even if it’s not L98, your Wing Shooting Officer should be able to help you use a local indoor (or Air Rifle) range. Many of these are underutilised and need to be used more, or we risk having them closed.

Yep. just about everyone does it different…

we have an indoor .22" range which we “block book” for 6 months at a time with a permission to run live fire

for other ranges all indents, transport and range bookings have to go via, wing shooting officer and Wing Ex O

for us it is fairly simple (on the assumption you want a 25m barrack range)

dial station number>dial extension> “hello SAC/Cpl Bloggs”

“ah good morning i would like to make a booking for the 25m range please”

providing the dates are free its a winner.

we are then required to complete Annex K to chapter 3 of ACP26 "arms and ammo request"
filled in as required and sent to Wing, which is approved and sent to the Armoury. always worth ringing up 3/4 days before to check it has been recieved then a matter of turning up on the day.

on the day:
our armoury insist on seeing the RAM and the F7257 of the RCO beforehand but then pass across the requested kit through the hatch.

as mentioned above expect local differences as required but that is the long and short of it.
