Blue Wings Ground Training

Ah… I might have misread the tone of the chat, sorry all if I did😅

Did you contact your Dep WAvO to get clarification at all? If so they may well have apologised for any confusion in the wording and confirmed that :

  • The Flying Operations module is a fundamental part of First Class

  • The Flying Operations module and Synthetic Training is a fundamental part of the Blue Aviation Training Package, both these and a flight at a VGS/ AEF must be completed in order to be awarded the Blue Aviation Badge.

You know what, he did

This is my own opinion but I really can’t see how a sim ride and 1 AEF trip warrants a set of wings. I get it that most cadets won’t get more than 1 AEF in their cadet tenure but come on… it’s like being in the Scouts!

We had a cadet that came to us not so long ago who had got his blue wings on a VGS/AGS and came to us wanting to do his bronze wings (before the change) as he’d done the bronze ground school. He was a little miffed when he was told he hadn’t met the criteria as he’d NEVER flown in a Tutor.

As a side note, does anyone have a copy of the Aviation Criteria Report or know anything about it?

Never mind the quality, feel the width.

Yep.

Generated from an SMS activity replacing consents in 3822. Example below:

Locally, escorting staff are to print and bring along.

Since when?

You can either print this out or take a 3822 - but as there are no more 3822s…….

Yeah - poor choice of word by me.

Can anyone tell me how to generate this report?

Under the reports tab of the SMS Event

Aviation Criteria

Can someone help me out with this one? I’ve got a couple of cadets who had a lucky opportunity to go flying recently, and on cadet portal it says they can get their blue wings after completing and AEF sortie. They have passed first class so have done Flying Ops. Do they also need sim time too? What policy is this in? (I’m normally the policy guy but this has me stumpted!)

Yes, they need the sim as well to qualify for the badge.

It’s mental, but that’s where we are

Thanks  Do you know where the policy is? I want to have a little read-up on this if possible

And I only ask for detail, because cadet portal tells cadets “The Blue Aviation Training Badge is awarded for either AEF Flying (1 sortie) or VGS Gliding Induction Flight (GIF) (Up to 3 launches)”.

If it’s the case that they need more than that, then Cadet Portal could do with being updated

Yeah, it’s CP that’s not up to date. I don’t know where the policy is offhand, but I can look it up tomorrow

It was IBN 029 - 2021. However, it has been removed from SharePoint. If you do a search of the IBN number in the shared folders of OneDrive, a few peeps have downloaded it.

Interesting, so an IBN rather than a change of policy? These are getting all too common…

As the IBN has gone, shall I revert back to the previous rules and give out blue wings for an AEF sortie + Air Ops?

Depends how excited that will make your WAvnO!

I thought it was changed in the flying & gliding ACTOs… I looked it up not long ago and it was there. Maybe they deleted the IBN once policy was updated?
