As it says in the title… Never actually seen the RAF version before! (there are plenty of pictures of the RN version on t’interweb)

Got to say - I think its a good idea. Replace all No.2s with blue PCS, and have MTP PCS as No.3 operational clothing etc.

What happened to the trial, does anyone know? Is it being adopted or not?

Cheers
BTI

EDIT: Can’t seem to get the links working for some reason. Try googling “Rare RAF blue combat jacket PCS” …there is are blue PCS shirts and jackets on the “Only Army” eBay store.

Links not working. However I did find the items, I haven’t seen any wearing this stuff around the station, so it might be disposal of the trial uniforms?

You might be right… all of a sudden there is a lot of RAF blue PCS on eBay!!

I’m guessing the trial wasn’t a success then?

If it wasn’t stupidly expensive for what it is, it would make great kit for CIs…

I was thinking exactly the same

Interesting that they decided to produce these trial items with the forearm padding pockets when the inserts were never even issued for MTP PCS.

I was thinking exactly the same :)[/quote]

Sorry chaps, but why would they want it?

Haven’t we had several discussions and parts of discussions on here regarding CIs wearing uniform? OK, even if it’s ex-trials kit that won’t be adopted by the Service, it’s still RAF blue and still gives an impression of being a uniformed member of the RAF. They are CIs, they don’t wear uniform; if they are that desperate to do so, they know what to do.

I don’t see it like that, dress regs for CI’s state ‘Trousers, Chino’s or Cargo style with issue Polo shirt and Sweatshirt or Squadron Polo shirt acceptable.’, the Blue PCS fit that descrition perfectly and since they are not a currently issued uniform there should not be any ‘impression of being a uniformed member of the RAF’.

They would also give an impression of a connection with the Cadets when seen in their company and if worn with any available ‘Civilian Instructor’ Badges and/or Arm Bands etc. should remove all doubt that they are not a ‘uniformed member of the RAF’.

If I was a CI and someone told me to wear blue PCS, I would tell them to stick it in a place unsuitable for a family website.

I would maybe, maybe, wear the trousers, since PCS trousers are pretty nice and make my backside look fantastic.

I think the MoD just said to the factory ‘Make this in blue’ so they just made it in blue.

Also, it’s exactly the same as the Navy trials stuff. It’s the same uniform with different badges on it.

I’m not for one minute suggesting it be compulsory, one of the benefits of being a CI is the freedom to wear (within certain rules) what you like.

I already wear Blue Cargo Style Trousers (that cost £7.99, not the PCS prices) most Parade nights, hence my original comment

i have to agree it not being suitable for CIs.

there are plenty of reasons why CIs chose not be in uniform so i cant see how offering them a uniformed style shirt is going to help the cause.
the branded tees and jumpers seem adequate to me. offers a “identity” without militarising (sp) those who prefer to distance themselves from such attire and image

The existing recommended CI dress has a good ‘Corporate Identity’ but it’s definitely civilian attire; however, RAF Blue PCS is clearly military-style, which is why I don’t think it would be appropriate.

I guessed that would be the case however it does kind of defeat the object of a proper trial, since what they were trialling was not what they were actually going to get!

My comment was only in relation to when uniformed staff and cadets are all in no3s. It would be a perfect form of dress, PPE compliant and practical.

And it’s obviously not uniform as it’s not on issue, nor is it being worn by the regular services.

Hell, I’d wear the trousers when doing hill walking.

As CIs does it really matter what they wear? OK blue uniform and DPM aside, if it’s a private purchase does it matter and can anyone say anything?

The CI sweatshirts and polos are fine, IF you can get them. They should really get them on appointment, but this seems to be logistically beyond HQAC. I’ve got CIs waiting as there seems to be all manner problems with supplying them in the correct sizes. But then again, should we be surprised.

I’ve been waiting for over 12 months now! I think that they are a good way of making new CIs feel like ‘proper’ members of the organisation.

I NEVER got mine. Still waiting for it to show up, 3 years after being commissioned!

I didn’t even think they still did them!!

Last time I looked there was about half a metric ton of them piled up in the store at HQAC.
