Anyone got one? I know where my 7 extra days are going
I saw a “review” of them on the Gadget Show a few weeks back. I say review, it was basically an advert for them saying they exist! I’m yet to be convinced that this is a way forward… but am happy for you to spend your cash and write a recommendation for me!
It makes hot water and charges your IPhone whilst in the woods… What more do you need to know???
Nice, if it’s not raining and you have access to dry wood/pines etc
I like… not sure I’d part with £150 though!
Sooner charge my phone from a car ciggy lighter and have my bat-man boil water for me.
You know if you go with one of those conventional “non-touch screen” iPhone type things, the battery can last for an actual week!
And you can get them from a shop for around £20. And you won’t care if you scratch it either!

Why though?? Why would you want to make do with an inferior phone?
It doesn’t matter if you are stood in the pub, your home or the field. Checking your messages for the zillionth time won’t make any new friends appear nor will it make your water boil quicker.
Hmm…you could also put a kelly kettle above the actual fire-basket…ingenious. But too expensive, thankfully
I can direct you to plans to make your own twigs’n’canndles-to-USB charger.
However, your mileage may vary…

935g is a lot of extra batteries! You could probably keep your iPhone going for a month on that, and probably for less than £150!
Have played with one we got into the store the other week. Works fairly well although you really need to ensure a strong constant fire to get a good electricity output. Fairly light, packs down quite small, but really is a gimmick and won’t sell well imo. Get a Jetboil and a Powermonkey!
Agreed, and precisely what I roll with!
So buy one of these for all those times you’re desperate to use a phone while on ATC stuff in the field and a solar charger for the rest of your life.
The only time one of these would make economic sense is if you did outdoorsy stuff for a living.
Personally I charge my phone before I go away for a weekend and yes it’s a basic phone, but that lasts the weekend and longer. I go away with people who can’t live wthout their I/android and they don’t seem to have any problems.
Already have a solar charger… This would be for those days when the sun isn’t shining (most days)
I do “outdoorsy stuff for a living” so I best go get one then!
Thanks for convincing me GHE2!
Each to their own I grant you, but I can definitely think of a number of goodies that Id’ buy before spending £150 on a stove.
I take a small, lightweight, sealed lead acid battery when I go to Glastonbury…it’s more than enough to charge mine and every other friend’s phone for the entire 5 days. It also comes with me to Nijmegen, and any other multi-day camping trips. Cost me a tenner I think.
