Personally I would cancel your application and go elsewhere. I am using this account for a different club and up until now it’s been reasonable but they’re now adding some considerable charges to it (published this week). Santander still offer a FOC treasurers account. I’ve also heard good things about Metro but not used them yet.
We are now in the process of moving away from Lloyds because of these costs they’re imposing.
I think you missed the post above where someone said we’d be exempt from the charges.
Putting an Air Cadet slant on this, Santander are one of the most awkward banks to deal with. Your mileage with other community associations may vary. As with anything, when it’s all going well, everything is fine, when it goes even slightly wrong, Santander will frustrate you at every step (though not quite as much as HSBC). I did write down why, but it got a bit long and no one wants to read that.
It’s enough to say that Santander do not support dual authorisation online banking even on business accounts. This is now a requirement of the ATC and modern life in general.
When rescuing a previous Santander account that had lost all its signatories, not only did I have to turn up in branch during working hours to resolve it, but I had to turn up 7 times to do so. 7 of at the time 20 days holiday wasted just because of bad planning. Cheers dinosaur committee members who stuck with an old fashioned product, were inactive as trustees and were retired so didn’t have to worry about losing holiday for dumping that on me! Having helped with a similar situation recently, things have not improved (perhaps they got off more lightly because I gave them heads up on what to expect). We eventually managed to close their account in only 3 months.
I would also expect Santander to introduce charges in the next 12 months along with others who presently don’t charge such as Natwest. Virgin Money customers are likely to get a longer break as Nationwide get stuck into them first. Barclays may resist a little longer because of their Libor involvement and will see this as community service.
Having not yet seen the information about the new brace of accounts from Lloyds, I’m not budging on them yet. I definitely don’t see Barclays, Virgin Money or Santander as effective options.
It’s none of the categories listed on that page. Air Cadet Squadrons were given exception on a case-by-case basis by Order of the Charity Commission - a power the Commission had under the Charities Act 1960 that was withdrawn in 2011. Any Air Cadet charities formed since 2012 cannot be excepted.
