Beret Backing Coloured DISC

Anyone use these or know where I can get some?

Much like the ones at RAF Halton or Cranwell

Get some cheap coloured plasticard from your local craft/modelling shop and make your own?
I’ve never seen the need to use them, but that’s what I’d do if I needed to source some.

HAve you tried asking parent station stores?

This thread could be fun, fun, fun!!!

I’ll get comfy.

I thought this was going to be a fun and interesting topic about the Green Slime Onion Factory in Bedfordshire. Instead its a dull topic about someone who wants to add a gash bit of coloured plastic to berets. Dull

Should be able to get them from any training unit just depends on what colour?

Or find an NSN for them and speak nicely with some biccies to a storeman

to answer the direct question in the OP - no

given the effort in finding a NSN, and the delay in ordering, or PITA to get to RAF Stores i would have thought a trip to Hobbycraft to send all of £10 and 30minutes with some scissors would offer the same result…??

Why do you want them out of interest?

When I first joined my sqn, beret badge disks were used to indicate what flight you were in. We don’t use them now for a unknown reason.

^^Now we’re starting to get somewhere :cheer:

It’s probably because the RAF don’t wear them outside of recruit training so why should we?

Perhaphs if a Wing were running a big first class training camp for 50 or 60 cadets then they might be useful.

So we can adopt the RAF’s way of thinking when we want, but not when we don’t want to.
Are we part of the RAF or a youth movement with connections to the RAF.

Love it!!

When I was a cadet we used coloured tabs on our epaulettes to distinguish flights. That worked OK, but looked silly.

I know, it’s good isn’t it!? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m gonna love this aren’t I???

It has it’s moments… :stuck_out_tongue:

Please do not worry about that I do on my Squadron and concentrate on your own.

Sometimes it gives me one of those bad heads you know the typ that hurt like hell behind the eyes :stuck_out_tongue:

We use coloured tabs for our flights which the RAF use in training to distinguish what trade the trainiees are the discs are only really used at Halton (well at least they used to be) Cosford do use yellow discs but only for those in the first 10 weeks of phase 2 then they get rid of them.

Funny attitude from somebody asking for help?

Hmmm,

When I first appeared on my squadron the CO at the time had all new cadets (pre first class) wear a white disc behind their beret badge. It was a disc of white foam, cut from a larger sheet.

I did away with it when I took over as uneccessary (can see they are a recruit because they don’t have a first class badge), was a pain in the ■■■■ to keep removing it whenever the cadets went off-squadron and it doesn’t appear in our dres regs.

If you wanted to do something like this though, the best approach I recommend is the cut-it-yourself from a sheet.
