Belt shortening

hii! in my recent uniform inspection, i was told to shorten my belt (working blues) cause the end goes all the way to my back. ive looked everywhere online on how to shorten it but i cant find anythingg?

Behind the buckle you should find a hinge. Pry it open and then you can feed the belt through it to shorten the excess that you describe. This excess can then be kept inside the belt rather than wrapped around the outside (some cut it, but I wouldn’t encourage this with growing cadets and uniform that has to be returned).

You can see the hinge point on the right hand of the buckle, above the small elongated hole.

I’m struggling to find a decent image, but you can see the semi-circular cut-out here to allow it to be prized open.

I’ve seen people saying to do tis before, but wasn’t sure on unit’s opinions on it. Won’t they be a little annoyed when they get belts back shorter, or is the belt not returned upon leaving?

Don’t cut it, it can be adjusted longer again with the same method of opening the rear hinge.
