Becoming Supernumerary at VGS / AEF

I’m wondering how a uniformed member of staff; SNCO (ATC) or RAFVR(T) Officer, could train/fly for a local AEF or VGS.

What hoops does one have to jump through? I can’t see any process outlining this on BADER.

take a look around the VGS websites

i found this which may be of some use

To fly at an AEF you need to have the following:

Be a current or ex military pilot
Hold a frozen/ unfrozen ATPL with at least 1500hrs
Hold a class 1 medical or military medical.

Ideally you should have a military background but there are a handful of none ex military AEF pilots but they have been A2 gliding instructors.

Aefs don’t offer a full training program as such as you should already be able to fly. New pilots get a 5hr Tutor convex.
